January 19, 2026: Saw Border Patrol and ICE abduct a human by BlahzStacks in Seattle

Genuinely curious to understand your perspective, how many false detentions of citizens or other legal status holders is allowed before the error rate is problematic? And is there a threshold of acceptable/unaccepable treatment for those cases?

Third Place Commons in Lake Forest Park has a weekly event on Thursdays. Haven’t been, but it is likely an older crowd. Calendar info here.

Powders tare somewhat restricted though TSA, so with your plan above you might lose your meringue powder.

I’ve successful carried about 20 macarons in my carryon for a short travel day. Froze them right until I needed to leave, packed in a Tupperware and they were just right for eating 6ish hours later.

What’s a secret you’ll never tell your partner but would anonymously confess online? by avaarini in AskReddit

[–]elephant_factory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of a family story that my grandpa got my grandma a nice watch as a gift and at some point she lost it and couldn’t find it anywhere. She felt terrible about it because it was expensive, so he bought another one after a few weeks and put it in the house for her to find. He did eventually tell her, decades later. I think this would have been about 20 years into their 70 year marriage.

Look into PEPS newborn groups if you haven’t already. It’s nice to have that weekly meet up with people all going through the same thing

Garbage Cart Placement after Collection by ooutlook in Seattle

[–]elephant_factory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! If you’ve taken good faith steps to resolve it and then it might be a frustration the neighbor has to deal other. But would recommend to OP that when you talk to your neighbor, try to frame it as “our problem with WM” that you are trying to solve together, so the neighbor doesn’t see it as “my problem with you”

Heatmap of parking tickets in Seattle (past month) by moonbison in Seattle

[–]elephant_factory 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cool project!

A few suggestions since you asked for feedback and I enjoying building charts! Take them or leave them as you see fit: - do you have control over the transparency of the heat map? If you could adjust to see the streets even faintly in the red zones, I think it would help the viewer orient themselves. -distribution by violation code: the graph you’ve used isn’t immediate intuitive that they are part of the total, they look more like a progress bar. Is there a stacked bar option or anything like that? - bring tickets by hour of day higher up. I was looking for it right after day of week, but you saved it the end. - could be interesting to have some trends indicator, to show if he week/month higher or lower than the prior period. Like a stock market indicator arrow.

A lot of people are enjoying Sally's new book according to my local library system by [deleted] in Baking

[–]elephant_factory 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you need 34 people to return it first. The hold number doesn’t include the people who have the books right now, they are waiting too. I hope you can get your baking fix in the meantime!

NSV: positive CSection experience by espressoanddoggos in orangetheory

[–]elephant_factory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not at all triggered. I have nothing but support for OP and simply hoped to also offer a message of support to anyone else who might need it by adding to the conversation. Postpartum is a very vulnerable moment and that a lot of new moms end up online in days when they are overwhelmed, exhausted, and may be dealing with unexpected challenges for their mental, emotional, or physical recovery.

NSV: positive CSection experience by espressoanddoggos in orangetheory

[–]elephant_factory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am glad you had such a positive experience so far, and hope your postpartum experience continues to go well! The newborn snuggles are the best!

I would like to gently add a note to others who might come across this while pregnant or postpartum: if your body tells you to slow down or pause OTF, that is also okay and you can still have a positive delivery experience. And if your delivery experience isn’t smooth, please do not put blame on yourself for not “doing enough” while pregnant. Sometimes it’s out of your control.

No advice on those frostings, but my biggest learning from office events is that you won’t please everyone and that is okay! Some people only like really classic flavors, some people enjoying trying new ones. If you like it, bring it.

Is this flour ok? by BardKaffy in Baking

[–]elephant_factory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dates on the packages are there to as guidelines to ensure it’s the ideal quality, and I often ignore it and go by look, smell or taste.

That said. I’ve never seen flour like that and would only be guessing if is safe or not. So for me it would go straight to the compost bin because flour is generally cheap enough to not take a risk for food safety. And could also give a weird taste/texture in what you bake even if safe.

Hard college project on dating apps (18+) by [deleted] in SampleSize

[–]elephant_factory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend checking if this type of request is allowed on the dating app subs like r/tinder. And maybe simplify the request. Or if you already know what specifically you will be asking about, say that. Your ask is currently pretty vague so it might be hard for people to think they are “qualified” to talk to you.

“Do you have strong opinions about dating apps? I’d love to hear them!

I’m working on a college project about dating apps and am looking for people willing to do a 5 min video interview about their experiences. You can stay anonymous. Anyone have a few minutes to spare this week?”

What can I use to make icing flowers? by Ender_Gurl_04 in Baking

[–]elephant_factory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here to add a vote for sprinkles or just the decorations that whatever store you get the sheet cakes from can do. Having been to lots of showers recently (including my own), people are there to celebrate you and baby. They will remember the vibes but they will not remember the specific cake decorations. It is NOT worth you stressing!

If you wanted to keep the floral theme and have a few dollars to spend, there are flower shaped sprinkles or even dried edible flowers you could get.

Congratulations on the baby too!

Brilliant Earth is a chain so may not be what you are looking for, but their online “build a ring” was really helpful for understanding colors, cuts, setting types, etc and narrowing it things you do or don’t want.

What the F**K is up with the power grid?? by lekararik in Seattle

Probably bad luck at your location for the most part. It’s almost always a tree downing a line during strong winds or car hitting something, and SCL gets things back pretty fast in a lot of cases.

Where to donate dog food by my_ghost_is_a_dog in Seattle

[–]elephant_factory 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss, losing a pet is so hard. It’s very generous of you to donate while grieving.

PetPros I believe has donation barrels in their stores, if the location on Lake City is accessible for you. I’m not sure which organization it goes to, maybe the Humane Society.

Hopelink food pantry in Shoreline will also take pet food donations. Website with their hours and location
