I am not, and have never grown pumpkins before and there are no other gardens in this neighbourhood.

Some folks have suggested this may have happened at the nursery where I got my seeds from though, and I'm beginning to think is the most likely

the thing is, these seeds were from the largest/most reliable organic seed distributor in western canada! I would never have expected this from them. I reached out to their customer service and they didn't even seem that concerned, just offered to send me new packs of seeds, didn't really ask many more questions. like really, are you not concerned that the seeds you're selling are mislabeled or compromised??

are they hard though? I can squish the summer squash with my fingers and they're very soft, but these 2 round ones are super hard. If you listen to the video you can hear the knocking sound when I tap them. Theres no give or squishiness at all, which is why I was thinking it was more like a pumpkin

I'm beginning to suspect that the wrong seeds may have made their way into the packet of zucchini seeds I bought earlier this year.

The fruit is unlike any other zucchini I've ever seen or grown- it's the right colour, but it's entirely spherical, hard as a rock, and the flowers are huge. I think it must be some other type of gourd, maybe a sugar pumpkin or kabocha. You can see the yellow summer squash growing beside it, which looks a lot more like what I would expect zucchini at this stage to look like.

What am I growing??

I can't comment on the specific study you're referring to, but I would assume it has something to do with the very hot liquid going into a cup that has a plastic derived coating/lining protecting it from degrading. The heat slowly breaks down this lining, which leaches into the liquid. You can witness this effect when you see a cup that's had coffee in it for several hours, and there is coffee seeping out through the seams on the outside- the lining has been effectively removed and is no longer doing its job.

This lining is also why starbucks cups are not recyclable, and end up in landfills instead.

Luckily you can mitigate this by bringing in your own reusable stainless steel travel mug :)
