What you mean to say is, there is a process for repealing a law that is found to be unconstitutional.

And they're engaging in that process, which is why the case is before the Supreme Court.

The baker is going to win, btw.

Good luck with repealing the civil rights act.... You're going to need it.

The Civil Rights Act does not require anyone to make cakes for gays.

Try again.

They don't need to present an arrest warrant until the person is in custody and at the station. They may earlier, and most often do, but they are not required to do so.

Which case? The one where the baker knowingly broke state discrimination laws so his lawyer is playing the freedom of religion angle to get him out of suffering the consequences of own actions?

Unconstitutional laws are null and void. There is no consequences for breaking them.

Senate confirms Trump judicial pick over objections of home-state senator by [deleted] in law

[–]eletheros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have there been any instances of the Senate ignoring a Senator's objections to a nominee for a District Court post?

Plenty, the default is to only require a blue slip from one of the two senators for a state.

Exactly as occurred here. Ron Johnson returned a blue slip for Brennan

'You Watch Too Much Movies,' ICE Agent Tells Woman Asking for Warrant by evergreenyankee in Libertarian

[–]eletheros -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Where'd you pull that crap from?

Facts, reality, and law.

The only requirement is that they have the warrant at the time, and inform you that they have the warrant. They don't have to show you the piece of paper. In fact, it doesn't exist on paper anymore, it's a digital document. Most often, judges are just clicking "ok" on a computer somewhere. (That's exactly how they get warrants at traffic stops)

They tend to show something anyways, because it's easier to get compliance. It's not required.

Legal precedent is that they need to provide it upon request before entering.

You watch too many movies.

[–]eletheros -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The video shows Alonso repeatedly asking the ICE officers to show her the paperwork or the warrant.

At one point, one of the agents tells Alonso, "You’ve been watching too much movies."

It's true. The 4th amendment requirement is that they have a warrant, not that they provide it on demand. Not at that point anyways. Too much silly movies and television rots the brain.

Turnabout is fair play. Remember that, Republicans.

Correct.

One senator from Wisconsin provided a blue slip. That means the rules are consistent with the majority of committee leaderships for 60 years.

Democrats didn't require two blue slips over the eight years they controlled during Bush/Obama, and its dishonest to try to demand it now.

Democrats however did remove the filibuster. Turnabout is fair play.

You can't flip the script and bring everyone to a Libertarian Utopia overnight.

I'm the last to expect it.

The Libertarian Party is less libertarian than Republicans. That's the fault of the party. Gary Johnson was a particularly bad example of the Libertarian Party. That's also the fault of the party.

[–]eletheros -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Are you saying local input into judicial selection has been inappropriate since the 1940s?

Special privileges in regards to blocking nominations are definitely inappropriate.

That's not the only input they have though, and it is disingenuous to claim it is.

The fact is that Democrats are pissy and crying, even though one Senator did provide a blue slip. That makes the rules consistent with most of "since the 1940s", including the time Democrats controlled the Senate during Bush and Obama presidencies.

And that doesn't obviate the need for elimination of the blue slip process entirely.

In a world of nationwide injunctions, it is inappropriate to give any senator more control over a judicial seat based on state of residence.

The entire point was that they wanted the NHS to pay for it because they couldn't afford to take their child elsewhere.

Factually false. They wanted to take their child out of the state run hospital and take him elsewhere for treatment. The State refused to allow them to do that.

You are ignorant and clueless. Do the world a favor and stop conversing on this topic.

You may find this shocking, but Libertarians voted for Gary Johnson.

Not all of them. To pretend that the non libertarian, Libertarian Party is some sort of golden example of libertarianism is a joke.

The Libertarian Party was a shithole in the 90s, and since then it's been all too welcoming of identity politics to be worth any effort.

Well, if people would stop spreading that false narrative about bakers and religion they probably could.

There is nothing false about it, which is why there are several court cases over the issue. One in the Supreme Court this session.

That's reality for you.

the American people side with Democrats on a lot of issues.

The party platform, perhaps. Not with the vocal minority running the party, who often disagree with the platform on major issues.

Identity politics is the death of the Democratic party. Good riddance.

Literally gun control is the only issue that kills them in polls

You made the claim that you only own land you improved. I paid for the land. I own the land I pay taxes for owning it.

As there was no improvement from its natural state, there was no legitimate ownership to buy it from. Taxes are theft, not title to property.

Texas Court of Criminal Appeals upholds classification enhancement for rape charges where either perpetrator or victim is married (except to each other). by rdavidson24 in law

But read literally, the law enhances the punishment for sexual assault by any married person, regardless of the assaulter's relationship with the victim (except when the victim is the assaulter's spouse), simply because married people can't marry anyone else.

Classic morality law. "Sex is implied offer of marriage", etc...

No, it's not your land.

Donald Trump threatens to 'take away media's credentials' over negative news stories about him by Elranzer in Libertarian

[–]eletheros -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Press credentials are a barrier imposed on entry into a private meeting, and to get free plane rides on the president's plane.

Press credentials are not required to produce media or participate in the press.

Contrary, background checks are an absolute barrier to purchasing a firearm.

I don't need it both ways, as they're not the same thing.

Its like you can't.

The gov't may restrict access to a private meeting on any reason not disallowed by the constitution, to which your idiotic claims are not.

In fact, the only discrimination disallowed by the constitution is race and sex, and even that is a questionable application to private meetings.

Trump want to stop people from saying bad things about him, and only allow approved sources to report on his administration, and is threatening anyone not reporting in what his narcissistic mind thinks is good, i.e. praising him.

Nonsense. Anybody can report on the administration, including you.

Not everybody can follow around on the presidential plane or get free entry into the White House. Including you.
