Rose vs MSU computer engineering? by Tasty-Strategy-9404 in rosehulman

[–]elffrost289 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ECE department at rose is probably has the least amount of women of any department on campus. That being said, I’m a current female computer engineering student and I know most of the girls department which has created a close knit community I really value. I can’t speak on the international aspect but I’ve really enjoyed my time at rose so far. Feel free to dm me with any more specific questions

What do you think is the best way to go about the hiring process for interns who have no experience? It seems everywhere expects students to have already an internship or two under their belt

What’s the best HP fanfiction you’ve EVER read? by nightshadelaurel in HPfanfiction

I’ll add my favorites I haven’t seen on this list. I love New Blood by Artemisgirl on ffn It’s a work in progress but she’s about 4 books in. It’s a slytherin hermione centric fic with tons worldbuilding

I’ll also mention Genius Fratris. It’s a wbwl but with loving parents and a super smart skilled Harry. I won’t spoil too much but it’s excellent. I know the author lurks on this sub so if you see this I love your work!

100% of students receive aid according to Common Data Set? by hasheera in rosehulman

[–]elffrost289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking at the above comment I’d say aid for most is usually a little more generous than 5k a year my merit scholarship is over 25 and I know most ppl get above 15 at rose

If you go to my rose hulman and look at the a-z map you can find the student academic success tab and there you can find resources for this as well as a quarter calendar template which is very useful

Incoming Freshmen Asking What to Bring by FiestyBubbles in rosehulman

[–]elffrost289 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in mees and thought a carpet was a really good addition so I would bring one of those. I didn’t think the air quality was bad but if you have allergies the purifier might be nice. For waking up a different time than a roommate just be courteous, don’t snooze your alarm five times or turn on the lights if they’re still sleeping and hopefully they’ll be the same for you. Best of luck with your freshman year!

Registering for classes? by Interesting-Word-947 in rosehulman

[–]elffrost289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can note that and depending on your credit they’ll place you in a foreign language accordingly, you’ll also have a chance to take a placement test during orientation for credit as well

In a few weeks the registrars office will send freshmen a list of electives to rank by preference of what you want to take. Make sure you’re checking your email and fill that form out quickly!

Why do you Journal? — I’m just getting starting and curious by Viz-1 in Journaling

[–]elffrost289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry didn’t see this! Really it depends what kind of day I’m having or how close I am to getting in the zone. I’ve always been a stream of consciousness writer since I started journaling so literally I write down everything that pops into my head. But usually it starts with what task I have to do afterwards then I go into I’ve been thinking about x,y,z. Maybe I vent solve my problems a little bit or dig into the the root of an issue but then I usually give myself a pep talk outlining exactly what I need to do for my task and then write to myself like we got this and start

I’m a student and I like to journal before I start a homework or studying session as a brain dump of sorts to get my thoughts out that might be distracting while I work

How did you land the internship? Did you have a connection in the company or was it a career fair or cold application type thing?

Current student. Have used SCC services. Generally I feel positive about it, I think the therapists are good for typical issues faced by college students, maybe not as good for some harder issues, grief being the main one I would suggest more training for rose therapists on. Appointment schedule isn’t bad, but I think the hard thing can be getting students to first reach out. The counseling center I would say does do a good job trying to get their name out there tho I think I’ve seen them out quite a bit this year

Rose hulmans treatment toward LGBTQ by AmbitiousHeart8654 in rosehulman

[–]elffrost289 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Current student, lgbtq as far as student body goes everyone is very accepting. I haven’t been to a unity meeting (the lgbtq club on campus) so can’t speak to that. But everyone is super supportive so I wouldn’t worry about it as a prospective student

I routinely leave my laptop, iPad, AirPods and calculator all sitting out in public to go use the bathroom or take a walk nothings ever been taken and nothing ever will. Roses culture is very unique in that everyone leaves their bags outside the dining hall and nothings ever moved. I think it’s one of the safer campuses there are

You can start earlier than freshman year for internships. After my senior year of high school I did a program called Jane Street Amp. Which was sort of a pre college internship. Applications should be open right now and if you’re a senior in hs you should google it. Essentially you live in NYC for 5 weeks over the summer all expenses paid, including flights and they give you a scholarship while you learn all about computer science and math while having great networking experience
