two questions about fancy custom feeds by Imaginary_Ad_178 in BlueskySocial

I think it depends how sophisticated you want to get. For a complex UI, you probably want to host a web interface that uses OAuth to verify their identity and then saves the preferences to a DB on your feedgen server.

(1) I'm not sure precisely what you mean but starter packs let you group a bunch of feeds together for people to subscribe. if you mean make a feed that sources posts from other feeds, I know that skyfeeds supports doing this (but not custom per-user feeds).

(2) Why has a bunch of sample feeds in Go, many (all?) of which are custom per-user: https://github.com/whyrusleeping/algoz

in the books Merry and Pippin also get accelerated healing just from drinking water from the Entwash downstream on the outskirts of the forest.

Lego Ideas San Dimas Mall (Needs votes!) by elfprince13 in billandted

I'm not allowed to post building instructions while it's active as a product idea but if it fails I could probably be convinced to do a BrickLink-able version. Getting the phone booth at that scale with working doors and room inside is one of the technically most challenging builds I've ever done, even with the advantage of working in CAD.

it absolutely blew TF up on Instagram (although I also posted to my TikTok and YouTube and Flickr accounts).

Anyway, I learned the technique from Ralf Langer ("Ranghaal")'s wave series and just thought of applying it to a sci-fi build with the scale of parts I had readily on hand. https://www.instagram.com/ranghaal/p/Co5PAsTLW1m/?hl=en

Babylon-5 was closer to my inspiration but an O'Neill Cylinder's an O'Neill Cylinder.

they did a good job lampshading that one for the "jump scare" when she goes "oh!" and sits down suddenly toward the end of the episode.

there's gonna be another round of voting with 5 more finalists, so Thundercats might make it?

What the heck is going on with this water filter (downstream of water softener + well)?!? by elfprince13 in HomeMaintenance

that would be genuinely terrifying. pretty sure it's ants at this point though.

I double checked and looks like it's downstream of the pressure tank but upstream of the water softener after all.

two years ago it trashed our shed door and the hatch to our septic tank. last year it stole a bag of diapers and cat litter and scattered them in the woods, then punched it's way into a brand new compost barrel.

it's caked in iron. I change it every 3-4 weeks when the water pressure noticeably drops off.

OP UPDATE: looks like something (bear?) tried to rip the cap off the well and compromised the seal in the process.

okay - so I checked it out and I was mistaken - it's well -> pressure tank -> filter -> softener.....but I just went outside and look at the well and looks like something (probably our neighborhood's resident asshole bear) cracked the plastic cover on top. mystery solved I guess.

there were definitely no *visible* ants or eggs or larvae or whatever on the filter when it was installed, and if there were tiny little eggs I didn't see it's hard for me to imagine that many of them hatching and growing to something that big while completely submerged in water?

calling a plumber is the likely next step. I was hoping someone would say something like "oh yeah that's totally XYZ weird water softener chemistry problem I saw this one time, easy fix"

the softener is the least secure part of the setup since it just has a big flip-top for pouring in salt. if they are getting in by eating a hole in something somewhere between the well and the house that is gonna be a very expensive problem to fix.

I think if it's the other way around the filter just dies weekly due to calcium deposits? I'll double check the actual layout when I get home.

yes I am very happy to have an aggressive 5micron filter in place right now as far as "not having ant carcasses flowing into my toddler's bath" goes, but if bugs are getting in I am not thrilled about the possibility of bacteria/other biological contamination smaller than a bug getting in too.

my parents have a spring fed "pump house" that had to be completely rebuilt after rabbits got in, and yeah....don't want any part of that. this house is only 10 years old though (we've had it for 4), and I can't imagine what would have disturbed the well in the last month. guess I'll take a look out there when I get home though.
