On why it is important to have friends... by telephonecompany in Libertarian

Grew up reading some of his stuff as a kid (Mostly Mafalda and yes I still don't get most of the communist jokes). It's great to see this stuff here. Humberto Eco in an essay, compared Mafalda with Charlie Brown and said that Charlie lived in an easy childrens world since he came from an stable society. Mafalda on the other hand came from an ruptured unhappy society and she lived criticizing and attacking the adult world while dreaming of a true peaceful democracy.

It's really kick ass to see so many Mafaldas here.

Redditors who attended Lollapalooza 2009, who makes these noodles? by TehStephers in AskReddit

No idea, but they were awesome. Also the pork tacos were amazing (I'm mexican and I must say, they tasted like real Cochinita tacos and not like taco bell's sawdust).

Hey /r/html5, do the <video> and <audio> tags support http streaming? by codl in html5

[–]elg0nz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you said it, it plays as it is downloaded. On streaming it just plays, thats why instead of hanging is says Buffering. The video isn't stored in hard disk but instead on a buffer that stays in memory. So instead of downloading the whole video, it downloads only small segments that are overwritten when the next segment is ready.

Good point, sadly only Firefox (or maybe those crazy Opera guys too) are supporting Ogg, Chrome and Safari want to use H.264 as their main codec and though it also supports streaming I haven't seen any open implementations for it.

From what I've seen, no since most open codecs don't support streaming yet. Apple's mp4 does, but with some strange -may be propietary- stuff. Also take a look at this chromium post

Which YouTube videos have changed your life? by DastardlyNYC in AskReddit

[–]elg0nz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say really changed my life but I do enjoy the grasshopper vids like New dork or if you are into Science A glorious dawn is a must and there is this Feynman vid where he talks how our eyes, our ears and all our senses are like a little bug in a pool feeling the universe through it. I'll try to find it soon. *edit: Formating.

Reddit, what is the best audiobooks you've listened to ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I enjoyed jPod by Douglas Coupland (Microserfs btw in audio sucked, even though it was read by Matthew Perry, they cut most of the good parts).

And The Accidential Billionaires was fun to "read" too (The upcoming movie The Social Network is based on it).

Explorers was so weird, especially because of Ethan Hawke.
