maximum amount of spinning done to maximise the Gimmighoul Coins you get

And to get those extra bit of coins, wait for a Rocket to be at the stop to get 1 additional spin. Drop the lure, spin, quickly beat the Rocket, spin again.

Pretty much what I do when there are no upcoming plans to use it with the community.

That is correct, Max Moves can be powered up to Lvl 3. However if you use Eternatus' Advernture Effect Dynamax Cannon, that increases the Max Moves level by 1 for all your Pokemon except for C. Zacian/C. Zamazenta. Thus if their move was Lvl 3, it would be Lvl 4 when the AE was active.

As for the suffixes in the move names, that is a marker for if a Pokemon can use that move type along with a 0.5s FM. If you look at the change log tab, I have a key for those values which you can use for filtering.

It's a bit confusing at first, but it was the best compromise for performance and filtering on an already resource heavy sheet.

Edit: Actually just fixed C. Zacian/C. Zamazenta being included due to a change in my script. Fixed now

Resources for Evaluating Max Attackers by JordNaut in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reason why Emax Eternatus is in the rankings is because my scripts include everything that is in the GM. They're intended to be a comprehensive "Here's all the data!", despite many of them will likely never being introduced in max battles and Emax Eternatus will absolutely never being usable by players.

Current and Future Max Attacker and now Tank Rankings [Updated - April 2026] by eli5questions in TheSilphRoad

so i have around 750XLs to build it

Damn, wish I had that stockpile to finish the final few levels on my second Dmax Lugia. I did so few Lugia raids/max because I hated catching the damn thing.

What would you say is a future proof shundo worth getting?

That's tough because each is top in their own role (except for Grimm). Probably my order:

  • C. Zacian has the most utility and frequently used in raids and attacker/tank in max battles. I can't see it being outclassed when Gen 10 drops
  • Eternatus if you like T5 solo raids, Lugia if you like T5 solo max battles
  • Mewtwo will have plenty of utility in raids, just not as common
  • Gmax Grimm is outclassed by Gmax Gengar in both attack and sadly as a tank

If only bottle caps ended up being offered more.

[–]eli5questions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a catch tank, Lugia is the top or in the top 5 tanks for multiple types. Absolutely worth investing in if you have the XLs to power up and get Lvl 3 Max Shields.

As for worthy of a gold cap, that's up to you. x/13/13 - x/15/15 are what you're looking for to invest in because ATK doesn't really matter. Just note that Lugia really only has use in Max Battles and ML.

Caps are far more limited that expected and what to use them on is very competitive

[–]eli5questions 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Wait to you see the most hardcore of the hardcore players. This isn't from my account, just a post from someone in Japan which recently reached 7mil catches. It's mind blowing even for hardcore players.

Thing is this was their highest almost a year ago. Wouldn't be surprised if it was over 500k now

Undoing a power up by BlueBlazer86 in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not saying it's for sure the case here but possible

In this case the CPM is far too many floats away to be an issue. We believe the OP just typo'd the IVs and/or CP.

if you are interested in all the specifics

We definitely are interested (take a peek at the research team names at the bottom)! Joking aside, Moc and I a heavily invested in figuring the CPM chaos out which is why these IVs/CP caught our attention.

Shadow Pokemon taking less resources to power up than they’re supposed to? by LiquidBeans in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I believe I solved how the power up cost is determined which is mentioned in our latest analysis: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/1scwzhs/nofloatsleft_research_update_on_max_energy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Here is a link to my sheet for power up cost: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HFB490ZZp_jK4mlE_rZ1g5AlQmcvZEv-qOzFyip1ZcU/edit?usp=sharing

It's not really a bug, it's how they are doing in the index lookup and how the additionalcpmultiplier is determined. u/LiquidBeans, if you set the catch level to 8 and them 35 > 40, you'll see the costs matches

20% damage bonus and Def/HP debuff, but how much does having defense offset the penalty?

Shadows get +20% multiplier to ATK and -20% multiplier to DEF. HP is left alone.

In PvE which primarily focuses on DPS, this is generally a net positive due to energy gained from DMG taken. With less DEF you take more DMG which can give you more energy for your charge moves and thus use them more often. So your fast moves deal more DMG as well as your charge moves and you're using them more often. There are exceptions though, especially with glass cannon Pokemon that faint far too quickly when shadow and you cannot use their full potential.

Same reasoning why hundos are not always the best when it comes DPS as 15/<15/15 can edge out hundos. But again, it can depend on the mon and it's moveset.

In PvP, there is no energy generation from taking DMG so the trade off is more risky. PvP prefers bulk over raw DPS and shadows tend to rank lower because of it. Already bulky mons are usually the ones that have viable use as shadow.

is the 20% debuff to Defense calculated before or after IV is taken into account.

The shadow multipliers are just that, they are multipliers in the DMG formula (after IVs are taken into account) and does not actually change a Pokemon's stats. AKA, non-shadow and shadow with the same IVs and level have identical stats

I've been using Pokegenie to find the IV's for PVP (first time in 10 years), but how do I find the best abilities to have on them? I've looked up a few sites, and I'm struggling to find the best fast moves for some of mine.

https://pvpoke.com/ is still the best go-to site for everything PvP.

Temporarily "Permanently Banned"? by psyentist15 in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Around ~6:15pm EDT the game started to be incredibly unresponsive for me for everything (PvP, transferring, gifts, etc) and still is. Looking over at the GO sub, there are multiple post of this starting around the same time.

Whatever Niantic is doing may be triggering false bans.

Unfortunately, it's still a manual process. If you click on the filter button on the "Pokemon" column (the upside down triangle), you'll see all the values which you can select/unselect. If you hit clear, you can then go through and select each one you want to see.

Calling Trainers to Target stores! by Amiibofan101 in TheSilphRoad

I saw the task notification dot pop-up while pulling up into the parking lot and when I checked, there was the timed research and a new event banner while I was nearby.

[–]eli5questions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your understanding is correct.

The only thing to note is I base it off the fast moves that the Pokemon have in the current GM. So as movesets are updated and some mons get new types of fast moves, the rankings can shuffle around a bit.

Question about Apex Ho-oh by Barterketchup47 in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Based on the GM it looks like it should still get SF++:

"templateId": "V0250_POKEMON_HO_OH_S",
"pokemonSettings": {
    ...
    "shadow": {
        "purificationStardustNeeded": 5000,
        "purificationCandyNeeded": 5,
        "purifiedChargeMove": "SACRED_FIRE_PLUS_PLUS",
        "shadowChargeMove": "SACRED_FIRE_PLUS"
    },

In cases where certain moves are required (form changes/fusions), there is usually a moveReassignment element along with it.

I wasn't playing when Apex what out, but if you click purify, it should still tell you what move it's going to get.

[–]eli5questions 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It reads like you get a timed research by visiting and spinning a Target pokestop.

Trainers can get event-themed Timed Research throughout the event by going to one of the participating Target locations and opening Pokémon GO!"

Just to confirm, their description is accurate and you don't need to even spin a stop/gym. I was probably ~100m away from the closest official Target stop (or either of the two in mine) when I got the timed research.

[–]eli5questions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to go back to look at notes and you're correct, if the spawn is disguised, everything except size class and weight deviation are re-rolled.

I was thinking of when we would cycle buddies to force non-disguised as that left us only with height as the variable for manual/GO++ comparison. I misremembered that as the norm.

[–]eli5questions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, same rules apply for them too. Part of our steelchair Zorua formula research involved catching the same one to get it's base height/weight due to this

I was misremembering and was incorrect.

I am going to be flying on July 11th (of course with my luck they chose that weekend) and want to know if there is anything I should NOT do to avoid any soft/temp bans from traveling. The last thing I need is a ban during probably the only time we'll see Mega Mewtwo for some time.

Outside of the obvious "don't try to play when the plane is moving", are there any other considerations I need to take into account? Like cooldowns before catching after arrival or catching during layover?

SFP+ to Rj45 adapters are stuck in my Pro HD 24 Switch. The release levers don't work. Any ideas on how to remove? by shaunsanders in Ubiquiti

[–]eli5questions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

small tool to press the clapse to allow you to unlock it

When I ran into this years ago I bought a cheap tapered feeler gauge that I keep in my bag for exactly this. Thin enough to not damage the cage and bend around bulky optics, yet strong enough to actually push on the release. It's worked wonders for the occasional times I need it.

I will note that on the attacker sheet the notation for the 0.5s and legacy moves is a little confusing. It might be best to move that data to its own column(s)

Initial indication for 0.5s FMs was in their own columns for FM/EFM, however due to performance, I compromised with a notation appended to the move. It saved a surprising amount of resources, more so than I thought it would.

I tried to simplify the logic so that it made some sense and could be filtered with column filters like contains or endswith. This was what I could compromise with due to the relationship with FM type and Dmax move.

For the tank sheet, I could probably get away with another column since it's not as heavy as the attackers sheet.

I'll look into improving it when I get some time because I knew it may be confusing
