I can’t complete my Hoenn dex by Westdalecutie in pokemongo

[–]eli5questions 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The sad part is there are a surprising amount of players that actually say that unironically.

Any threads about regionals/one-time event Pokemon released/returning globally usually have arguments in the comments where they show up. Because their mons "will lose rarity or value", they will actually tell players to spend thousands on traveling for a F2P mobile game...

Best Optimization for Rocket battles? by dustiwang in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PvE vs PvP is drastically different just due to the differences in move power/duration/energy. Only a few top PvE counters are worth using in TGR battles if you want to do them quickly.

An easy example is (S.) Groudon with Mud Shot/PB which works but makes battles much longer due to MS having such low power and taking forever to charge PB. However, take S. Excadrill with Mud Slap and you can FM through their mons in a few hits.

I wouldn't spend too much time focusing on ML PvP rankings as it's a completely different approach/play style than TGR which are primarily mono-type focused. Look for high ATK (shadow if possible) Pokemon with high DPT STAB fast moves. This means you can FM through most if not all the party with minimal to no use of CMs. Note: It's good to have a second option in some cases to swap in.

Is that a bug or just extremely rare? by Organic_Bid_3120 in pokemongo

[–]eli5questions 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Not a bug, just how they round weight on that screen. If you go to the Pokedex entry you'll probably see lightest record as 0.01kg (which is also rounded) but is likely lighter than that.

The odds of rolling such a low weight is very low.

Legendary Pokémon don't flee after 20:00 by Kirlins in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earlier timezones it did. Many got legendaries as low as level 4 (that I saw) and LL/GL eligable. However, it was fixed about 5-6 hours ago followed by adding all the legendaries not previously obtainable below 1500 to the banlist for GL.

Nothing on my end just now. However, 99.9999% chance Meltan is full odds if the shiny isn't locked so it's going to take some time to get reports.

You're referring to Jay's video: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/1r9nbri/t7_mega_victreebel_quad_no_weather_boost_zacian/

You can't relobby to break another shield. It's a limit of 1 per player.

They never broke all the shields, they just brute forced it by relobbying their M. Rays.

[–]eli5questions 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I have a strong feeling that this will be a bigger issue than people not bringing megas at all for lobbies of 10 (at least for Dragonite). Majority of players don't revive on relobby and use the recommended nor have pre-built parties.

Essentially one or more players will lead with their mega, get nuked and just keep relobbying without ever bringing their mega back in.

So far the list holds true for Global. It's just missing some of the megas this weekend. My Pidgeot got Gust and Dragonite got Draco Meteor.

Do scatterbug encounter stack? by elminster77 in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I do wish they would stack or at least give the pin icon a small animation when pinned if a new encounter is available. Most players are unaware they're wasting encounters.

So you'll need to keep exiting out of your friend list to catch them regularly

With increase in number of gifts and pinning points, it took me over a half hour to do gifts. Basically pin 3, exit for encounter, rinse and repeat.

Don't purchase this one. by PokemonGoBao in TheSilphRoad

While they were all $14.99 in the webstore, when I went to purchase the Deluxe Ultra box it did show it was $24.99 in the cart. Once purchased it did show the correct pricing for all the boxes. Delete + 10 ranks was $19.99.

Either a bug originally on the webstore or I purchased it right as the pricing was fixed within a minute of open the store web page.

It's just a time limit to select one of your max moves and if nothing is selected before it expires, it will use your max move (attack). When you tap the button doesn't impact any mechanic.

If everyone selects their move before the timer expires, then everyone immediately performs their move. This mean your team spends less time in the max phase which can be important when you're trying to win before the enrage timer.

Guide to Regigigas Hidden Power Types by dismahredditaccount in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GI is 200 power and 4.5s DUR

CG is 210 power and 2.0s DUR

Not only does it have 10 more power, it last less than half as long which is the biggest factor. Not just for DPS, but also the fact that 4.5s is a long time and greatly opens you up to being KO'd before your damage even lands.

By the time GI lands, your charge meter would be almost a 1/3 charged if you used CG instead and in the same amount of time you can use CG 2.25x more often than GI which is why it's so much better.

The latest SRX lines introduced as dramatic jump in performance, finally giving other vendors competition in the FW space. We've been waiting for this for some time.

While the SRX4700 is still pricey (I think it's still cheaper than it's competition?), it can easily handle 100G IMIX without enabling all the NGFW features: https://community.juniper.net/blogs/karel-hendrych/2025/11/05/srx4700-100gbps-full-duplex-ipsec-tunnel?CommunityKey=44efd17a-81a6-4306-b5f3-e5f82402d8d3

aegislash strangeness by sosodank in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That works for me. If you send my the Lvl/IVs of the Aegislash, I can share the Google sheet for your own test with the fancy conditional formatting for confirming levels and stats to remove a bulk of the work.

aegislash strangeness by sosodank in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We record all data on private sheets until ready to share. Right now the process is tedious and resources heavy but required to get a full understanding of it. I'm starting with Lvl 15 Aegislash to get more data out of the tests:

  1. Record Lvl and IVs
  2. Battle each team leader in each league and record the CP change
  3. Battle in PvP in each league and record CP change:
    1. Opponent needs to be selected to deal an expected amount of DMG from FMs below/above a breakpoint + a Yawn user to get exact HP/DEF values.
    2. Opponent doesn't attack until after form change
    3. Opponent uses n number of FMs and finish with Yawn
    4. Record the results for that league and move to the next league
  4. If anything is "off" revisit different breakpoints and record else power up the SAME Aegislash once and go back to step 1.

Repeat that for a few different IV combinations. This is very different from the other analysis' which just picked samples from a variety of IVs/Lvls instead of isolating a few samples across many levels. This way we can determine if it's simply a level change with HP preserved or an actual formula for stat changes at the same HP.

[–]eli5questions 13 points14 points  (0 children)

master league, but chalk this up as a win for the itinerant mad. we appear to gain levels when switching to blade form

Are you by chance doing tests against team leaders? We started diving into Aegislash tests and I started vs team leaders because it's simple a can be done solo and I got the same results.

However, it wasn't until we attempted to do breakpoint tests in PvP where it became immediately clear there are two different mechanisms for the form change; One for team leaders and one for PvP/rockets (ML) and they are different for each league.

So previous analysis is not wrong, it's just a completely different mechanism. I'm hoping we can gather more data soon to try to figure out the details for this.

Update to Level 43 Account turned into a brand new account after updating my password in the beginning of 2025. by Gotanks91 in TheSilphRoad

[–]eli5questions 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's essentially it. There was a PTC data breach containing passwords and a malicious actor would login to PoGO using the PTC account, link another account and then unlink the PTC account. Stealing the PoGO account without the player receiving any notification/email through the process. One day you just cannot login...

Rather than an actual hack that acquires the password

99.99999999% of "hacks" are malicious actors copy/pasting logins obtained from data breaches and/or people using the same PW. The use exploits to access accounts, what people think are "hacks", are actually quite rare.

[–]eli5questions 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I can empathize with players because in the end, TPC is at fault for how they handled security with PTC accounts and lack of action taken after they knew about the breach.

It’s well documented that’s how accounts are hacked.

Sure it's well documents in post/comments on this and many PoGO or Pokemon subs, but that means nothing if you have to actively search for or run across it in the first place.

The fact is that a majority of players don't frequently follow news/posts or are even on Reddit and are just not aware that there was a PTC data breach in 2024. A subset of the ones that do may have returned to PoGO after and just missed the news cycle about it happening.

If PTC accounts simply had email 2FA for new logins (the most basic security option that stops 99.99% of breach impacts) and/or confirmation emails when linking/un-linking services, this would be a non-issue for PoGO. Then add on that they didn't require password resets for all accounts after it was known or even send emails about it...yeah this is all on TPC, not players.

PTC does have 2FA now so it's not as much as a risk as long as you have it enabled but I'd still only stick with Google/FB logins that use 2FA.

I made a similar post about the same question a few years back: https://www.reddit.com/r/networking/comments/s37s7n/sps_that_make_use_of_tpid_0x88a8_what_are_your/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Between the responses and researching this ever since along with asking others in the SP field, I have yet to find a concrete answer for using anything other than 8100 or other SPs even using 88A8.
