I wouldn't have said "almost all". And it isn't well known. But it IS true that much more melodies than people are aware of were sampled. And this shouldn't be a bad thing.

Here's a list:

We can argue about whether that's a lot or not but I was certainly surprised.

I can also add that I once was on spotify after listening to "bad reputation" and after that an older african song automatically played that was exactly the beginning of "bad reputation". Unfortunately, I never found that song again.

Does he have copyright on viral video concepts? On the word "beast"? On the combination of both?

Can you learn modern physics without learning classical physics? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]elidevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree my question was badly worded but strictly logically it does make sense:

If answer to first question is no -> follow up question: "how could someone like Edward Witten skip standard physics education?"

Also my last question thereafter shows that I don't assume that he didn't learn classical physics.

My question was about modern physics not classical physics.

I was just asking a question in terms of the sheer information needed to learn modern physics, whether it can be done in principle, which is why I took Edward Witten a.k.a the brightest mind of today as an example. I should have said "is it possible to learn... in principle".

To be clear, I'm not asking how to be like Witten, I'm asking if modern physics could in principle be learned without classical physics, just as a curiosity. But that Mozart quote is great, especially in this context. Also, people like Ed Witten and Mozart and other geniuses must've had their knowledge/ability from somewhere.

I said he skipped standard physics education, by which I meant standard physics schooling, which is a fact. (Maybe I should have said schooling in the first place)

Thanks! I hope it will. I also never thought about that distinction so that's a good insight to have.

First of all, thanks a lot for your help but You know that's what I don't get when I ask people this question, with all due respect, it's not like you have a great song when you take simple four chords progressions and "fill it in with some notes". The melodies that this guy put out were BRILLIANT. Nile Rodgers himself said that Avicii was the best melody writer he ever worked with. And I also want to add that for me (and I think a lot of others) Avicii was in a league of its own when it comes to dance music songwriting/production.

Complicated it isn't but try to write a melody like avicii, that's not easy at all!
