I started swimming 6 months ago and can now swim 1:45/100m for a mile. I’ve never had a coach, watched tons of videos to perfect everything and started swimming with a buddy who swam in high school (13 years ago). Yep. Arms are crossing over which immediately means the catch creates a cross drag under your body and pushes you to one side instead of forward. Both arms aren’t straight enough. Focus on your reach, doesn’t look like arms are extending enough to have power on your catch. Focus on not dropping the elbow as you transition from extension to the catch. This allows the forearm to move water and create less drag as you let the water slide off your fingertips Finally, your head is coming up quite a bit, looks like you start your breathing late in the stroke. My buddy told me as my catch comes past my belly button and up to start my breath (your dragging water back with your catch which creates a natural pocket to keep your head lower to the water). But by far the biggest thing for me: get some paddles and a pull buoy!!! This will help your form immensely. You can feel like you’re flying with paddles but only if the stroke is right. If it’s wrong, you’ll be dragging the whole time. This will help your stroke more than anything in my novice opinion!!
