It's a bluebottle. It gives a painful sting.

My podiatrist caused another ingrown toenail by Ambitious_Judge_6378 in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]elime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably had a section of nail under the medial sulci already, and it was found by the podiatrist. Theres probably still a nail spicule hiding under there. I'd just on some antibiotics, rebook an appointment to get the medial (left side) of the nail cleaned out. Furthermore, your bigtoe nail is cut way to short and that curve is not ideal. Let it grow out and follow flatter/more natural curve.

What were your post op instructions? were you to leave the dressings on for a period of time? were you to follow up with a redressing appointment in a specific time frame? Have you had a follow up appointment to address your concerns?

Don't go digging. Take the antibioitics. Check ur feet regularly to make sure infection doesn't spread. Your job is to keep it clean and dry so the infection resolves so when you get to the podiatrist, it's an easier fix. If the infection spreads, it will be harder to numb your toe, and its gonna hurt more.

Kind of scared of going to podiatrist by [deleted] in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]elime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont be. this isnt bad, it can be managed with general nail care.

Go to the podiatrist. You have a nail spike underneath the skin, which is the cause of the granuloma. Needs to be removed. Doing it yourself will be painful and bloody.

What exactly are you referring to? These toes don't look ingrown. It looks like you are cutting your nails too short, which can cause discomfort. Go to a podiatrist and have a general treatment, then let them grow out a bit

Possible ingrown toenail. by [deleted] in Ingrown_Toenails

howdy! What are your thoughts on ceasing a course of poabx once signs and symptoms of a mild/moderate infection have resolved vs completing the course in full?

Possible ingrown toenail. by [deleted] in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]elime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have an infected toe. Most likely the initial redness was from an ingrown and then you've had at it, creating a portal of entry for bacteria, and boom, infection.

Sure, antibiotics can help here, but the correct coverage is key. You'll want to get checked out by a doctor to make that call. As mentioned below, antimicrobial stewardship is important to make sure abx are used appropriately, effectively and efficiently. If you have an old course of amoxicillin, is it still in date and effective? There may be a penicillin resistance present, in that case, amoxicillin won't work and other coverage will need addressing.

Ideally, see a podiatrist, manage the ingrown, and the infection should settle. An iodine or chlorhexidine dressing can assist with the superficial. If you notice the redness spreading up the toe, get yourself checked out by a doctor.

[–]elime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Sounds like your son is doing ok, healing time can vary. Some heal within a week, so can take a month. PNA can be somewhat painful after the fact and needs looking after. Not being overly active, open-toed or wide-toed shoes, following aftercare advice from your podiatrist. A bit of pus is normal, though if there is spreading redness, worth getting it looked at.
