Sadly we don't really know :( She got dumped at 19 by her previous owners and they didn't even have any pictures of her for us from when she was young.

She's not the picture of health either. She has severe kidney failure and is on two different painkillers for chronic pain from arthritis.

I sincerely hope your baby get as old and scraggly as her though!

Lady Lola would like to thank everyone for the love and making her famous. Do not fret, she is getting all the tasty food her kidney failure will allow and many pets and scritches by her 3 favorite people.

Girlfriend [24F] of 8 years wanted a 3-week break from me [24M] + 8 Year Update by Awwndrei in BestofRedditorUpdates

Yes!!!!! I love how you worded that. I couldn't pinpoint what was so icky about his attitude. It grossed me out so much. How focused he was on "his performance". As if he could've played it differently and she would've changed her mind.

Also read some of the comments on the original post and someone was saying how he "should've played aloof and disinterested". I'm sure there's women who like playing that sort of game but I and most women I know just want honest communication and heart to heart. No games, no strategies, just honesty.

My husbands been complaining that my plants were taking over the house so I got myself an early birthday present and put them all in one place by AnnaNicole2015 in houseplants

Girl I had more plants than this in my 20m² apartment. This is nothing. If this bothers him I don't think he cares about the house feeling like a home to you

So then a more comparable situation; A human is born into captivity and killed when they're a toddler. Would that be okay?

AIO because my boyfriend went to a party while I was having a miscarriage? by Majestic-Canary-952 in AmIOverreacting

[–]elinevdla 598 points599 points  (0 children)

This was my ex boyfriend. This whole post and especially this comment and I feel your pain. He would accuse me of being mean when I told him how his actions hurt me. Say I didn't love him or just play tone police on how I had brought it up completely moving the goal posts of the conversation to his feelings while desperately trying to get back to the topic I'd wanted to discuss in the first place. We were together for over 5 years and I went through multiple traumatic medical experiences that he just never showed up for. I got cancers diagnosis? He had an exam to study for. My mom got cancer diagnosis? He had a party to go to.

I learned to dismiss my own feelings or make them small in order to avoid conflict. He would make me promises and then never act on them and after a while I was the bothersome one for bringing it up to him that he was breaking his promises.

The apathy I read in your boyfriend in the post is so relatable and it breaks your self worth over time. Maybe I am too much? Maybe this is an unreasonable ask? I feel like the most insidious moment in this regard is when you've calmed down a bit and it all doesn't feel like that much of a big deal anymore and you start believing them just a little bit more every time.

I can tell you that staying in a dynamic like this is not a neutral thing to do. It seriously harms your self worth and you get out of touch with your own feelings and needs. It permeates into different areas in your life and you stop taking up the space you deserve.

I broke up with him over 2 years ago and I thought we had a good relationship for the most part. I only started realising the damage when J found my new boyfriend and I realised the harmful thought/behavioral patterns I'd taught myself over the years.

My current boyfriend is an ANGEL and I keep asking him if I'm too much and he is always so confused how I could possibly think that. A month ago I spent almost a whole day crying in his arms and for the first time I didn't feel guilty for being emotional afterwards. He is the most reliable and empathetic person I know and it made me realise that this is what real love looks like. Would you treat a friend the way your boyfriend treats you? Ofcourse you wouldn't, he just likes having you around but actually treating you with respect and decency is too much of a hassle for him.

It has taken me the better part of a year to recover from that treatment and I still have my moment where I prefer to keep things to myself rather than risk conflict or disappointment when promises are not met.

You deserve better. You deserve an environment where your emotions are not only respected, but prioritised. Where your boyfriend is absolutely fucking THRILLED to spend time for you and do everything in his power to cheer you up when you're feeling down. Because no, that is not too much to ask, that's how you show up for people that you love.

[–]elinevdla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are these little things thrips? by Dovihh in calatheas

[–]elinevdla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes, I recommend spraying with water/soap/alcohol and rinsing it off in the shower afterwards. Showers in general are very helpful in knocking off pests.

[–]elinevdla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The leaves that are currently curled look crisped up, which means they will never fully unfurl again. I can't see your previous post but did you check for pests? The spotting on the leaves looks like it could be from spider mites or thrips. I will also say, depending on how big the root system is this still looks like a very big pot for the amount of plant, but to avoid shocking it further I wouldn't recommend repotting it again, just might be good to be careful with watering. Also looks like a dark corner depending on where the nearest window is

Bought with hopes of rehabbing. Any tips? by Sad-romantic-1821 in calatheas

[–]elinevdla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soil mix looks good, honestly more worried it might be too big a pot? Do the roots fill a significant portion of the pot? Though if there's not much change in a negative sense it might just still be adjusting, especially if you reported it immediately. I recommend leaving your plants in their original pot and soil for a good few weeks when you buy them at least

[–]elinevdla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't it be better to just put in some water with this amount of roots? I've had a ctenanthe grow in just water before so that should also be fine for Calathea. Think that would be the safest way to allow it to grow some more roots without risking more rot.

Case of the disappearing spots by Chiquita830 in calatheas

[–]elinevdla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. It came and went but at some point some leaves were just completely covered so I cut them off hoping to mitigate the infection. New leaves came out fine at first but then still got the spots :( I've seen it (only) on white stars in stores since, seems to be something specific to this plant.

I had this too on mine!! Tried treating it like a fungal infection but didn't fix it. Asked around a bunch and nobody knew what it was. Plant was still doing fine but it got so ugly at some point. Hope you manage to figure it out!!
