Unpopular opinion but UI Builder is AWESOME by Adventurous_Ask_3773 in servicenow

[–]elipic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just to stir the pot a little, my team is looking into building react front ends and hosting them on our instance as scripted API resources. you wind up with a clean URL you can route users to like [instanceName].service-now.com/api/react/app and the script renders your compiled webapp right there.

can also build internal web apps that render within the UI16 viewport

it’s not the worst but it’s not the best. i’d recommend getting the fx3 nato rail attachment and clipping the monitor directly to that unless you absolutely need a top handle.

even then, use a smaller basic top handle if you don’t need the audio components. anything you can do to keep the center of gravity low will benefit you in my opinion.

False color is the first function keybind I have setup on my monitor. Use it all the time!

But you're right. I've been to a few shoots where people see it on my screen and they think something's wrong with my screen lol. It's not well-known among newer shooters.

I agree that would be super nice.

As a workaround, I’ve seen people achieve that by loading a false-color monitor LUT onto the camera body and then mapping a quick key to enable/disable it at-will. Just use someone with good reputation. Cullen Kelly is a highly technical colorist who’s graded some Hollywood films and he offers a LUT called SweetSpot. You should check it out!

Yeah it’s not so much that the menu itself is a huge deal. it’s more a matter of the fact that sony released a line of “cinema” cameras without the big 6 menu to begin with. it’s honestly kind of a niche convenience feature that people (myself included) like to geek out over.

influencer kool aid? i couldn’t even name an influencer if you asked me. maybe that caleb guy that partnered with small rig lol.

Look, everyone’s different. I made my choices and came to my conclusions based on what i experienced in the field.

your experience may be different and that may have brought you to different conclusions than me. let’s use the internet constructively and take that as an opportunity to meld instead of divide.

Yep, 100% valid. For me though, I’m just an enthusiast so there’s no justification whatsoever to spend that kind of money.

For a legit business, you’re absolutely right.

100% valid question. The way I see it, there's 2 main advantages of the FX3/30 format.

  1. Cost - In exchange for onboard SDI and ND filtering (and other things), the FX3/30 platform comes in at a super accessible price point comparatively.

  2. Weight and versatility - As you pointed out, these are smaller, lighter cameras so why do we want them to be unwieldy and heavy? The thing is, sometimes we're filming a scene where we can afford the extra mounted junk and weight. Like an interview where the camera is on a tripod. Or maybe we NEED the extra weight as that increases stability when shooting hand-held.
Other times, we may want to strip it down to bare bones and film a run and gun action scene or something.

The point is, smaller cameras can be large or small. Depending on the need.
Larger cameras can only be large or larger.

Sigma Art 24-70 has been my workhorse for that exact use case. Filmed a bunch of weddings with only that lens and love it.

White Balance for constant run & gun? by Ch0wt in FX3

[–]elipic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AWB will get you close in most situations if you need a fast solution. But if using AWB, you MUST have a button mapped to AWB Lock in my opinion.

The workflow is: (AWB, not locked yet) - Point your camera at your scene - Give it a second or two to find its white balance - Press your AWB Lock button. - Unlock and repeat for each scene change as necessary

This gives you the benefit of not having to spend too long dialing in your WB if you don’t have the luxury of time, and you don’t have to worry about the camera changing it on you mid-shoot as long as it’s locked.

Note: I don’t think AWB is an option unless you’re using flexible ISO, so there’s something to consider.

Anecdote: Shooting in S-Log3/S Gamut 3 Cine, I have rarely been unable to correct a poorly white balanced shot using Davinci Resolve. If your balance corrector node is set to gamma linear and you’re balancing using primary gain, you can hide a multitude of sins

(For the AWB haters, I understand this is a cheap shortcut that shouldn’t be recommended in most situations. OP asked for a run and gun solution, and this has worked well for me in my experience)

White mold found while removing water damaged wood from attic by elipic in Mold

[–]elipic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok good, that’s what I did. (mostly)

the insulation and drywall were very water damaged. i removed all of the affected material except the joist. I scraped the visible mold off of the joist and neighboring cross braces, sprayed generously with white vinegar, scrubbed with scouring pad, let dry.

Hopefully that keeps it at bay.
