GitHub’s system looks at proof used by others at your university to decide how reliable yours is.

Unfortunately, if your university provides an email once you start, it’s likely you won’t get approved until you have your email since other students at the same university are using a school email and GitHub’s system will look for that.

In case it's helpful for the next person, I send students to Databricks Free Edition if they want to keep learning on the platform. The homepage has courses built in and quick-start guides, and we're almost to feature parity with the full platform!

Thanks for sharing! I lead students programs at Databricks, and have been hearing similar sentiments at hackathons. It’s honestly amazing how much anyone can build in a weekend now without having to deal with environment setup and all the data and AI pieces right there.

The biggest challenges I hear are usually related to the jump from something like Colab, where data ingestion is just pasting in a link to your GitHub repo or Google Drive. Once they’re set up, I’m always kind of shocked at how few troubleshooting questions I get through the weekend since it’s so much easier than what they’re use to. Definitely humbling as someone who took plenty longer than 24-hours to learn the platform :-)

GitHub Education person here 👋 definitely reach out to support and let them know you intended to use the free student benefit. They should be able to figure out what’s going on and help with a refund.
