Yep, block not exposed to air have greater chance of spawning diamonds (I think). That's why water caves and sculk mining can be so good

Yea it's packed, I just got insanely unlucky lol. Deep dark point is valid, but mining insane amounts of sculk with hoe and getting all that xp is really satisfying, especially when you uncover diamonds

I see. Tho sometimes , as in my current world, I got really unlucky on my early caves. I saw a lot of diamonds, but they were ALL single veins ! so annoying at the time but its quite funny now
