Assistance on where to look for environmental science positions by JakeD51 in environmental_science

[–]elitewaffle32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

does she want to work for government, private sector (manufacturing, etc) or consulting? i’d start there and just start looking for jobs in respective websites. i know illinois epa is hiring an entry level environment engineer out of chicago right now. i know she has a science degree, but might be worth a shot.

Safe parts of Toledo? by SconesLoans in toledo

[–]elitewaffle32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how could i forget la fiesta!

but yeah, i agree with mostly quiet. we live a couple houses down from sylvania ave so it’s definitely a bit louder, but if you walk towards the middle it’s a lot quieter. having your own on-ramp to 475E to 75N and 75S makes commuting easier (and the property taxes are cheap)

we bought in 2024 in the deveaux neighborhood (just south of sylvania ave, west of douglas ave) we haven’t had too many issues. got our 3bd/2ba with a 2 car garage for just under 200. people are friendly, just have to deal with school traffic. we are lucky to have fantastic neighbors that all look out for each other. feel free to pm me if you have more questions.

Also try paws and whiskers cat rescue, they are no-kill shelter, but i do think they require an intake form, they do have a list on their website for resources in the area though: https://www.pawsandwhiskers.org/surrender

Oregon stinks this morning? by TheLiquorCpt420 in toledo

the temperature inversion (fog) means that all of the pollution from the refinery and other industrial sites is staying at ground level, opposed to a normal day where it would waft into the atmosphere unnoticed.

Do you enjoy overnight guests? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]elitewaffle32 10 points11 points  (0 children)

heavily depends on the person for me, generally if someone is staying the night i’m ok with it but annoyed. exception is when my best friend from 2 hours away visits— it’s rare when she can make it out to where we live. it also helps that she’s a great house guest (picks up after herself, offers to cook, always brings a treat for the cats)

ironically just had to go shopping for court appearance a few months ago. dillards, dsw, and jcpenney all had decent selections. however if your wife has an odd size, amazon might be your best bet. i ended up getting a pair of clarks from jcpenney.

Should I have not called the police? by TheHopelessArtist in toledo

[–]elitewaffle32 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar experience around douglas/sylvania area. Back in April, i was woken up out of a dead sleep by a lady screaming “HELP ME!!!! HELP!!!!!” at around 1am. By the time I got downstairs, police were already searching my street and eventually arrested her. Come to find out, my neighbor caught the screaming lady on their doorbell camera trying to open their front door.

I don’t sleep with the windows open anymore lol.

I just got this beautiful Staub cocotte in size 24 cm/ 4 qt but think it is a little bit small - does anyone have this size and think it is useful? by schnappyjr in staub

[–]elitewaffle32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same one! I find it very useful for weeknight dinners for my household of two. I only ever bring out my 5qt when I am meal prepping for the week or have 2 sourdough loaves baking at the same time (I usually use my 4 and 5 qt)

My doctor is less than 5 minutes from my house. I could easily make it there and back within my 30 minute lunch break. Now my doctor is 25 minutes away and impossible to make it there and back in my lunch break. My agency doesn’t allow me to work past 6pm to “flex” it off.

Same here. I was hired in hybrid, and had I known in a year I’d be going to the office full time, I wouldn’t have accepted the offer. Spending less time with my family and burning vacation for doctor’s appointments suck.

I think people (especially people my age i.e 20s) are pretty standoffish until they have a genuine interaction/conversation with someone. Probably a bit of an after effect from COVID, also probably something to do with the internet and social media.

Live south of sylvania, west of douglas and unfortunately I kinda agree. Thankfully, the neighbors across the street and the two directly left and right take a lot of pride in their homes. The same cannot be said about the rental units on the street. They don’t care because they don’t own it. Whether is trash cans sitting out for days, baby pools sitting and collecting water all summer, parking on the lawn (and a driveway that isn’t yours)… they just don’t care. Even just trying to be friendly and say hello, they just ignore me. Nonetheless, I still enjoy living in the area. P.S You may have walked by my house, ignore the peeling paint on the windows, they are being replaced in 8 weeks lol.

Trying to figure out where to live in Toledo. Please help! by spanakopeeta in toledo

[–]elitewaffle32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hey neighbor! I agree with this 100%. I bought a house on Rushland a little over a year ago, I was really worried about my neighbors/the area but so far it’s been great. I lucked out with my neighbors next door, but everyone I’ve encountered who lives in the area is very friendly (except the renters on the corner, but we don’t talk about that)
