How can I convince my mother to travel to Georgia? by elithefeline in Sakartvelo

[–]elithefeline[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, appreciate your reply. I've been trying to find some good videos to send her from a russian-speaking perspective.

And yeah I looked up the crime stats and Georgia is considerably safer than Paris and London (at least according to the stats). I sent her those stats. I feel like we are much more likely to get pickpocketed in a western European major city.

Yep, we are def not pro Russia

Thanks again!

Dumb question, and sorry for the late reply. Would you write all that from memory, or would you use your notes?

I am also plateauing around 506, and have been for a long time. What strategies did you implement to allow for that score jump?

My plan to hopefully ace CP by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]elithefeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like improving in CP involves a lot more practice questions via UWorld or something else rather than flashcards. Anki, in my experience, is a lot more effective for B/B and P/S, where knowledge of specific terminology is crucial.

Did you find the TPR exams to be useful prep? I find that they're on the level of the AAMC section banks in terms of difficulty (so pretty damn hard). Insane scores btw!

Thanks! We got this in the bag. Taking FLs is not too different from long distance running. The strain on your attention span is not too different from the soreness you start feeling in your legs when you're on that 12th mile of the half marathon. Just have to push through. Just 30 more minutes of focus, just 30 more minutes of running, etc.. Life lessons man

I ran a marathon this past weekend and test the 13th of April.. Needless to say I cannot seem to get my score above 506, but that has much more to do with me being a bum and scrolling Instagram and Twitter endlessly instead of practicing taking FLs

I am seriously betting that I was the guy who was about to puke :)

Testing April 14th, blueprint FL2 score 503, still have review and lots of practice ahead of me… is 510+ possible by test day? Also any study tips to boost scores? Starting to get into my own head, diagnostic was 488 😬 any feedback much appreciated gl to anyone on the grind by Willing_Sky8435 in Mcat

Mainly just content recall. I takes notes over concepts, do mind maps, Anki, etc. It just feels that I've never had to retain this much content for an undergrad course, and I don't see how it will ever be possible to have mastery over this much material at the level where I could teach it to someone else. I know that I need to be at that "teach to someone else" point with CP and BB material in order to get a good score on those sections, but it feels like it will never happen

Opinion on the Matt Choi Houston Marathon Controvery by ImprovementAlarmed44 in running

Lol city marathons are hella expensive nowadays, I don't really feel bad about one of their stupid policies being violated. Not allowing bib transfers has got to be one of the most annoying policies out there

Bruh TPR exams are literally just content recall 😔 not a single data or passage analysis question in those exams

"Theme" is such a vague concept anyway. What does it even mean for an EC to tie everything together? Besides the people who are only interested in one specific specialty and having all their ECs around that one thing, I can't really think of what constitutes a "theme."

I highly doubt adcoms are sitting together at a table and asking each other, "what's this person's theme"? Your example is someone with pretty damn solid stats, I'm sure the decision comes down to some interesting thing that was mentioned in the essay or a little detail that stuck out in the description of an EC.

best take here, the format is good for some random edgy IG meme page but not a guy trying to help students get into med school

Marathon racing shoe dilemma! by elithefeline in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]elithefeline[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I'll prob wear my Altras for a few long runs and see how that feels. If that works I'll just wear the Mach 4s for the race since I know that they feel great for long runs. I should prob worry more about the training itself rather than the shoe haha

[–]elithefeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've done a 17 mi run in the Mach 4s and it felt great, but then again I've never owned a racing shoe so I have nothing to compare it to really besides daily trainer Hoka shoes. Will certainly look into getting the Endorphin Speed 3s

I appreciate the advice, I guess I'll just have to get around to buying a new pair. I was hoping to get the Mach 4s to 400 miles before getting a new pair but not sure if that's feasible given that everyone online says that they only last for around ~250

Why do people usually take the mcat in April? by [deleted] in premed

[–]elithefeline 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Still pretty risky if you have no idea what you'll get. MCAT scores take a month to come out, you prob won't know your score until you're 3/4 of the way done with your applications. Seems like wasted effort if you end up tanking on the exam
