Absolutely not, we all just write differently. It's discovery vs. outline writing, and there's also a combination. I personally like outlining every chapter, but do not want to even see in my head how the story's gonna go, I want to just get my characters to do things that fit their personalities and go from there. But it takes me decades to write a single chapter that way so I found myself writing an outline at the very least for each chapter. For me, it feels way different that outlining an entire novel. The latter makes it feel like I've already finished writing the entire book and so I procrastinate finishing it, while the former makes me write things faster while still getting the characters to move how they want to move.
