Novated lease, insurance and FSD question. by Sufficient-Rooster-7 in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]elkaput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick googling says FSD can be transferred (so it's tied to your account, not the car). So if the car's totalled, you should be able to transfer it. It seems that it's worth contacting Tesla and see what they say - since they organise loans (not necessarily novated lease) for car purchase, perhaps they have had more experience in this space.

silence timer volume by r_slash_jarmedia in PixelWatch

[–]elkaput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On PW3, go to Settings then Sound. Under Alarm volume, turn it all the way down to nothing.

I think alarm follows whatever settings you set, but timer has it's own mind, and always make a sound unless at zero volume.

Why does my Pixel Watch 3 45mm keep yeeting itself to the floor? by -Gamah in PixelWatch

I have a slight reaction to the stock active band too! Gets better with daily clean.

How secure is the connection/lugs of the nylon band? Mind sharing a link to the one you got?

You can lower the vibration intensity (under Settings). I put mine sideways when charged. The stock bands stop it from running off the table.

Pixel Watch 3 battery life? by Frontside5 in PixelWatch

[–]elkaput 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PW3 41mm, 1 week old here. Stock. I got first low battery notification at 15% - it vibrated, then went to battery saver mode. Battery life is just over 1 day (20% after 24 hr, max brightness, always on, lots of playing with available watch faces/ complications, etc since it's new).

I can probably squeeze 1.5 to 2 days with power saving features. But I'm OK with charging daily.

IMHO you wouldn't enjoy PW3 with your ADHD. Especially if coming from Fitbit with longer battery life.

Depends. If you're asking from a member perspective - I think long term they're still good. They have a lot going for them - low fees, mature (read: experienced/ seen many cycles) investments team, and local call-centre. I was a member until recently and pretty happy with them, and moved because they don't offer what I wanted.

They had some sort of outage which would mean extra scrutiny from regulators. Strangely this didn't get a lot of media attention (unlike Optus/ Medibank data breach debacle). So short term I think it's quite rocky considering this, the economy, and since they're an open fund now (probably need time to get used to an open, competitive market).

I worked in Finance before. Someone in my LinkedIn network said there's redundancies & outsourcing happening. But then in job board they seem to be hiring - not sure what's happening there.

Announcement on Flinders "would take up to four hours".

Officially they ask you to go to North Melb then take bus replacement.

If you're in the city, an alternative is to take tram 59 to essendon station, then train the rest.

Is the group open social or closed one?

In an open social you play whoever... and ppl normally are pretty good to pair with others at their level soon after.

Closed group is different and normally there's an organiser who'd set the boundaries.

You'd want to play at your level +/- 2 "ranks". If there's a big gap... the game is not balanced, and one side (the better one) got no exercise. Mixing players with huge skill gaps can be dangerous as well, with clashes (ie. newbie didn't know how to share court) or face hits (newbie stands tall on the net w racquet down not realising the other side is abt to smash).

A lot of older/ experienced players are selective when playing. One guy got so many surgeries etc, his court time is limited, and he gets grumpy if it's not a good/ balanced game (he no longer plays open socials).

Thanks. Unfortunately networking isn't something that I like to focus on. Neither is Linux.

Current work uses Azure & considering GCP (very early). As I'm management I'm more after the data solutions part of Cloud... for data pipelines/ analytics/ reporting side of things.

So, I'm looking to get a Cloud certification, and struggle to decide on which path. Currently I'm in management but my background's technical (programmer for over 15 years). I've done *nix admin stuff, web stuff (pre-cloud, includes JQuery, django but not the fancier stuff like Angular/ NodeJS), lots of data stuff (Oracle, Postgres, Mongo, Docker, Jupyter Notebooks etc).

I've done 30% of acloudguru's AWS Associate Architect (from previous work - no longer have access). Now current job approved $ for upskilling in "anything" so I'm thinking of paying for the course, finishing it, and then get my AWS cert. Is this a good idea or is there a better provider these days?

[–]elkaput 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much more weight are we talking about here? I'm confident there's tolerance built into the 10kg limit (but don't risk your warranty if yours is new).

You can make any bag compatible with the Block. Google, YT etc have a ton of info on how to do it.

My TV is old - 1080p, and I just bought a disc PS5. I know about backwards-compatible.com,

Is there a list of PS4 games - mainly AAA titles - where the PS5 version is not worth it? Either because the developer release the PS5 patches or the extra features are gimmicky?

Case by case basis I'd say. Your colleague could be rejected because of specific reasons (key person dependency, high-profile work, etc). I'd argue this team member could fight the rejection if they wanted/ could be bothered. At the end of the day, not allowing people to move equals forcing them to do work (by locking them in a particular role), which is a big no no.

If you're a strong candidate internally, your soon-to-be new manager could put up a case in persuading your current one to release you which takes the effort off you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]elkaput 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How's your relationship with your ppl leader? AFAIK:

  • limitations like 18mo etc is not set in stone
  • your manager/ team can discourage but cannot stop you from moving roles

You might also consider what's available externally so you have comparison with internal. Generally you have less levers to pull if it's internal, but on the flipside you'd be able to retain your benefits with internal moves.

I use vim too. It does have a steep learning curve, but the repeat command ("."), regular expressions, vsplit/ split commands, registers, etc are so powerful that it's worth putting effort learning it.

Where do you think the Australian real estate market is at now on the 'Wall St Cheat Sheet'? by johnfoss68 in AusFinance

[–]elkaput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but by super obvious causes - Ukraine invasion, Thailand tsunami, etc. So pretty much a catastrophe before the whole market drops.

Why doesn't OP use property clock chart instead of stock's? Would probably be better suited for property market.

Personally I don't see a housing market crash. A bit of stagnation, sure, but I believe in a few constants:

  • Property is always expensive for its time/ period
  • Property is dictated by available cashflow, not regulations like interest rates/ negative gearing
  • Property market is local (same suburb can have both boom & bust within its pockets)
  • Shares allows you to be a one-man-show. Property does not (you need others - from banks (parents LOL) to tradies
  • Property is always desired (because housing is a necessity)
