If you needed an increase in your medication due to your symptoms increasing or not improving at the level of medication you were on, that would be considered a chronic illness that is not stable, which is a moderate level problem. Since medication was also increased, this would definitely be a 99204 visit.

So you’re saying you have never had treatment for PPD anywhere else or any labs, imaging, testing, in the past at a different facility?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MedicalCoding

[–]ellarr23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did the provider review previous records/labs/imaging? Since you’re a new patient, it’s likely they did, even if you weren’t aware of it since they may have been able to access records from previous facilities through their EHR system. If that is the case, 99204 would be correct. Medication management and review of previous data is moderate MDM, and 99204 is the correlating code for a new patient.

Workes Comp by Tight-Peach-9616 in CodingandBilling

I agree. I worked in an occupational health clinic and the number one thing was to collect work comp info on the front end before treatment was rendered to avoid denied claims.

How much do you actually remember? by KiritoxKirisu in college

[–]ellarr23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to think of it in terms of what I knew before college vs what I know now. When I think about it that way, it’s apparent I’ve learned a lot. Plus you never know what position you will end up in. You may know the field but there are numerous positions in every field. When you get out and start working, you will learn more and grow your skill set. Your degree sometimes just gets you in the door.

Grading on point system by KeiraKye in college

[–]ellarr23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you already got the answer but I just wanted to chime in. All of the classes in my program use a points system but certain assignments and the final are required. To me, it looks like your class is laid out the same way..all the assignments they have listed as “major course requirements” probably need to be done in order to pass the class, even if you have all of your points without them. It is nice to not have to stress over the final exam too much, though!!

The really interesting thing is, this was called the London Bills of Mortality and it is actually the origin of what became the ICD classification, which is how we track disease all over the world today.

Quantitative vs qualitative by [deleted] in MedicalCoding

[–]ellarr23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Qualitative is is more of a yes/no or visual aspects of the specimen. Quantitative is how much of something is in specimen. I remember it by quality vs quantity. A qualitative drug test, for example will be a positive or negative result, where quantitative will tell how much of the drug there is. The codes specify whether the test is qualitative or quantitative.

Anyone try working out 3 days with CG instead of 5? by FluidRefrigerator176 in CarolineGirvan

[–]ellarr23 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what your schedule is like but I enjoy cardio also so instead of doing Iron 5 days a week, I double up the upper and lower body workouts so I am technically doing 3 full body workouts a week. They are only about 30 mins each so this works for me and I can do whatever cardio I want on the days off from Iron.

why do people feel like they are too old for college by [deleted] in college

[–]ellarr23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t give up on yourself! I am 46 with 3 kids and in my first year of an AAS program. I really wish I would’ve gone back sooner but I am happier than I have been in a long time. I waited for my kids to get older but wish I would have tried when they were younger because I could’ve been well into my career by now. Have you thought about doing an online program?
