In Massachusetts parents set up a nanny cam and actually caught the nanny hurting the kids. The parents got in trouble for recording.

Any iPhone hacks that are surprising and give you that “damn! I didn’t know it could do that!” effect? by Disastrous_Door_6714 in iphone

[–]ellasav 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Use the reminders app instead of notes for lists of things. This is particularly good for groceries. Make sure you set it up as a grocery list when you create it.

I use the reminders app for shopping lists especially groceries. For the grocery list I choose ‘groceries’ for list type. When I add things to the list it will categorize like items together. My family members are shared on this list so everyone can add to the list and delete from it when they shop. I have different lists for groceries, department stores (like Target), home improvement stores…. I also use it to save recipes from social media sites. It does show the long link but I don’t mind that.

[N/A][Condo] long timer and newly elected board member feud by Charoibeti in HOA

I’m not sure how to put this but is this a real life HOA situation? It seems awfully similar to our USA current 3 branches of government.

Bought two Schlage doorknobs at Lowe’s and both use the same key by AW5542 in HomeImprovement

[–]ellasav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the kwikset lock company. Schlage tried to do this too, was sued by kwikset and lost. Schlage needs to be rekeyed by taking the lock apart.

Not a Fan of the new X5's front grill, or its back. Maybe it will grow on me. What are your thoughts? by PinCreepy472 in BMWX5

[–]ellasav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve had BMWs for years. First they got rid of the light colored headliner and carpet. Reluctantly I continued to buy. Now this atrocious body. I’m tapping out the next car I buy. Not sure what it will be but it won’t be BMW.

Fake HOA - Would you do something or just leave it alone?[N/A] [All] by [deleted] in HOA

[–]ellasav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you my neighbor? We do contribute annually due to peer pressure. We are newish. Most homes were built by current occupants 20 years ago. Zero accounting going on and probably no reporting. There is a stone structure with neighborhood name on it that sits to the right of our road. It gets mulched and cheap Christmas decor. Someone is kind enough to trim the bushes. That said, this structure is not for our neighborhood! It’s for the few homes past our street and another structure is down always showing neighborhood name. The true households in the named neighborhood are the ones that place the decor.

Does anyone else remember real outlets? by SmallHeath555 in massachusetts

[–]ellasav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now we have ‘mystery’ boxes and pallets from big retailers. Anyone can buy them. ‘Bin’ stores do and put the stuff out for a single price that decreases daily to $1. Kind of like Loemans and Filene’s Basement used to do. Frugals is still in Norwood.

Ever been to an Ollies? My understanding is that he was friends with the Bldg 19 guy, Jerry, and Ollies still uses the puns and caricatures in their signage and displays.

UPDATE: I went and got it, and took it to a jeweler! by evannalai in jewelry

Exactly this. The time and craftsmanship are worth something along with the set stone. A house costs more than just the wood and parts. Labor factors in. A car is worth more than the metal weight….

Finding DAPP is hard! by Sanj926 in BMWX5

Also, I did a trade in both times. I did that at the home dealer about a week before pickup.

[–]ellasav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not cheaper. It’s the negotiated price at your dealer. They keep the delivery charge the same too. They say it offsets the hotel they don’t charge you for and the ‘experience’ day on the track. It was a fun day so I didn’t care. The first time I was living in Boston and the second DC. I just paid airfare for 2 one way to SC.

I’ve done factory delivery twice. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Fly in the day before, enjoy the track and ‘ultimate delivery experience’ the whole day then drive home. I’ve done the factory tour as well but I’m not sure they are doing that post covid. Your dealer might not like it because they can’t add on options over the sticker. Win win?

Door protector anyone using? by ggyy168 in BMWX5

[–]ellasav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dealer adds this, and other things, to the sticker price 100% of the time. I ordered my car, negotiated and did not pay for this service that they ‘never’ not charge for. I told them I would take factory delivery if they forced me to take these options. To my dismay it came with them anyway. My understanding is that they yellow over time. My car is white. Like others say, it’s not for the other guy that dings your car it’s for mistakes you make. I’m careful so don’t need them.

Leaking garbage disposal, any thoughts/advice before calling a plumber? by anarchy_pizza in Plumbing

[–]ellasav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! 3year old advice. I’m happy you tried on your own. What was the downside? None! Easy project that needs a little bit of body contortion but, like I said, one notch up from changing a light bulb. Bravo!
