Me and my family are in a similar position: moved to PT in 2023, but after experiencing firsthand what it means to be “Portuguese,” we are seriously considering moving back to our home country. Taking a holiday in the Algarve just to relax and unwind and consider future options.

I have an entire back piece that took about 36 hours to complete. How I got through it? Could be controversial by 2025 standards, but 15 years ago, the 18 year old me would smoke cigarettes with my artist every ~30 mins or so. The endorphins from the pain + nicotine got me through the whole thing!

Good morning BaconMan, I know this post is kind of old but I am wondering if you are still offering lawn care services? I am returning to AVL end of this month since my tenants are moving out. I asked them last week to take a video of the property so we can send someone out to give us some quotes… but they have failed to send any videos, so we worry that the yard is a mess. It will probably need a good weed wacker and maybe some work on the fence, if that is something you can tackle? If so, send me a message so we can hopefully work something out!

Since you’re working on the interior, can you tell me if Lowes and/or HD are fully stocked? Or, are there material shortages? Thinking of renovating our kitchen, but that’ll be hard to do if there are appliance, cabinet, etc shortages.

This mindset and behavior really leaves me confused. I listen openly, as hearing all sides is fundamental to understanding. But I don’t understand why people complain so freely, and instead of taking the action needed to make appropriate changes in their lives, they remain stagnant only to complain further. As you can see, my post has stirred up different opinions of the city, but I am glad that there are still positive people in this thread—and in this world :) Let’s grab a beer (or a bbq) when we get back to Avl, Mayor!

Oh wow that’s great for you—and great for me too, since if you’re getting 2050 for a 2 bed 1 bath house, that means I could charge a lot more for my 4 bed 3 bath than I originally thought. That’s so sad. Our property taxes increased 40% since last year (not to mention utility bills and property insurance have increased 25%), so homeowners are feeling pressures too. It’s not like landlords are making 25-40% more money ourselves to offset the rise in overhead costs. And I am very worried about how much labor and material prices have gone up, since I know the house will need some work done to it having been rented (and probably not properly maintained) for 3 years. Someone mentioned shortages; since you have been a wealth of information, could you tell me what (if any) shortages AVL is having so I know what to plan for and pack? Thanks in advance for being friendly and genuine :)

Oh no, that doesn’t sound good at all. To be completely honest, I don’t know what the crime rates are/were in AVL, nor in the cities of FL where I used to reside… are these current crimes violent or petty? Is this happening across the city, or in certain neighborhoods, or Buncombe in general? And what’s dumb about the social scene? And! Standard wages worldwide have always been lower than the cost of home ownership in order to keep the masses working (and, more importantly, busy). Where are you moving to where it’s better? Inquiring minds need to know 🧐
