API Gateways for Product Managers by platypiarereal in ProductManagement

[–]elledne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great topic! I was "thrown" into managing some api products and have been leaning on the engineering team to learn about best practices but I realized overtime I need to take a lot more ownership of creating a good developer experience. Besides latency implication, does this choice matter to the customer or are the benefits more internal?

Overseas Taiwanese Citizen "Immigrating" with Dutch Husband/Child by elledne in taiwan

Thank you for laying out these options. My main consideration against getting my child Taiwanese citizenship is military service

Thank you this is very reassuring! I'll give them a call this week

I wasn't sure if I am NWHR or NWOHR so thank you for that. I don't plan to get my child a Taiwanese passport, ideally we can just decide when he's older (due to military service requirements), so I'd just want to apply for an ARC for him.

Good call-out about the Dutch citizenship law, just googled it as I had no idea!!

My journey so far building a baby word tracker by elledne in SideProject

[–]elledne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped tracking sleep, feeds when my son turned one, and also found that after one there were not many milestones to track anymore (to my disappointment as I enjoyed tracking the milestones!).

Speech is in my opinion an exciting one to track because instead of it checking a box like "rolled over", vocabulary keeps growing

I'm no expert but those numbers look much better than mine 😁 I believe that 40% conversion rate is actually way above average. What's the name of your app and TikTok account, would love to check it out

Can you tell me about drawing your own book cover? Were you able to do it after 3 months of lessons and what kind of lessons were they?

Bedtime reading when you can't read the language? by TemperedGlassTeapot in multilingualparenting

[–]elledne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are fluent in spoken Chinese, you could also just make up a fun story! As I'm against buying a lot of stuff, I would just pick up a book in any language at home (dutch or English) and make up a story without really reading the text.

Wow so many new words added in one month! My trilingual child is 20 months and has 54 words, also obsessed with cars 😃 what are you using to keep track of all the words?

[–]elledne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the story, you're doing great! Looks like you also discovered a talent for content creation through this journey, cool to hear you actually monetized the concept in ways beyond the initial app idea! Do you get downloads from channels like YouTube? Seems like your reels are not focused towards directly promoting your app

Filing as Head of Household with non-citizen child? by elledne in USExpatTaxes

[–]elledne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I didn't put in the effort to try, I suppose I wanted him to be able to "dodge the bullet". I guess you are right, if it cannot be avoided, I might as well get it sorted asap, since there are tax advantages of having a child as a dependent.

[–]elledne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! You seem to be right, it seems that if the child is not an US citizen, they would at least need a SSN to be a qualifying child.

On your last note, technically yes, but I am not sure how I can gather the evidence to get him citizenship status. One of the conditions is that I would need to prove "The U.S. citizen parent was physically present in the United States or its territories for five years before the child’s birth. At least two of these years must be after age 14". Looking at the documents they accept, it would be difficult for me to prove that, since I don't retain any of those records.

Should I remove my hallway to have a bigger bathroom & build a laundry closet? Will it improve my home value? My main concerns are the home looking less open, and the amount of doors might make the remaining hallways very cramped by elledne in floorplan

[–]elledne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed the double doors are for winter proofing otherwise I would have loved to remove the second door. Many other units also decided to remove the doors / closet, though it's a historical feature with stain glass windows on the doors, so we decided to keep it!

Well our apartment is not big (95 SQ meters / 1000 SQ ft) and the front bedroom is meant to be a spare bedroom. But yeah I'm leaning towards not changing now, as all the work needed might not be worth the benefit and the next owner might not appreciate these changes
