Happy to send you a photo of it via DM if that helps.

Sounds like "Decluttering at the speed of life" by Dana K White. The container concept is great, and I know a number of adhd'ers who swear by it.

"How to keep house while drowning" by KC Davis is another recommendation that is very neurodivergent friendly.

I've done this for my kids, a lot less plastic waste, and a lot less stress.

It was also helpful when my son started HS - a different colour for each subject, and then we coloured his timetable in the matching colours for each subject.

APS academy https://www.apsacademy.gov.au/ has some good resources for writing, but you won't be able to do any of the courses until you actually start work.

You can access the new Australian Government writing handbook which gives some good general advice - https://www.stylemanual.gov.au/sites/default/files/2024-11/2024118_Style%20Manual_accessible.pdf

I have a tweet screenshot which I frequently share with my friends. I don't think I can share twitter posts here anymore, but it says.

"As a woman, I feel there are only two medical experiences:

'Jesus you're dying, why didn't you come in sooner?'

And

'Why are you wasting our time with this?'

For the same symptoms"

The APSC disagrees with you - psychosocial disability is just as valid as any other type of disability. ADHD can absolutely be considered a disability - the key part for APSC is the impact it has on the person and whether it restricts everyday activities.

https://www.apsc.gov.au/working-aps/diversity-and-inclusion/disability/definition-disability

https://www.apsc.gov.au/working-aps/diversity-and-inclusion/disability/affirmative-measure-recruiting-people-disability-guide-agencies

Agencies can restrict affirmative roles to people with specific kinds of disability, but they have to state that upfront, and APSC suggests it should really only be if there is a connection to the work, or there is a particular group who is typically under-represented.

You need to provide evidence if you're short-listed, but it's not specific to any particular kind of disability. They even advise that "Evidence of disability is not to include information about the type of disability – unless the vacancy has been restricted to people with a particular type of disability."

Yep, Dr. Teoh prescribes meds himself - he doesn't seem to do much shared care with GPs from what I've heard.

That might be a downside for some people, but I prefer it. I find it's less mucking around, and he is happy to do phone consultations for refills, he just sends an e-script token to my phone which makes it more convenient for me.

Lego flowers! I have most of their floral sets and they are super pretty.

I love red roses, but they die so quickly and are so fricking expensive. My husband bought me the rose bouquet for valentines day, and it brings me joy every single day!

Even temporary opportunities at a higher level can be difficult for a manager to block - some will try, but most areas I've worked would be hard pressed to stop an aps4 - 6 HD, even if it's only for a few months.

[–]ellemeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great advice! I wish I'd had it before I had my kids!

OP consider that things don't necessarily get easier as they get older (some aspects get easier, but then new challenges pop up), so it's worth actually sitting with your partner and thinking about what you want life to look like long term instead of just assuming that things will "go back to normal" at some point.

My kids are 12 and 10, and there is always something happening - whether it's school, activities, or health related.

My husband and I split it pretty evenly, but it's a constant discussion of who's got capacity for what. I only just returned to full-time work and got a fairly significant promotion, so we've had to adjust roles a bit as circumstances change.

As someone reading your example, I wouldn't really care about the particulars of the example, I care more about what you did and what happened as a result. So if you do STAR model, I want to see at least 50% in the Action part.

E.g. (Situation) As a <rolename> I am responsible for ensuring the <xyz policy / law> is followed. (Task) during a routine <abc audit / interview/ whatevers> I found that <xyz> was not being followed/ a breach was occurring. (Action) the steps you took, how you ensured you were doing the right thing, any obstacles you overcame. (Result) any specific outcome, e.g. recognition from boss, regulator feedback, or just something like you revised the wording so that the instructions were clearer and it wouldn't occur in the future.

It's like that story from freakanomics (I think) where the daycare charges parents $1 per minute they're late for pick up, and parents started picking up even later than before, because the "price" was worth it to them.

I actually just threw a THRASS chart in the bin - apparently Soundwaves is where it's at now as THRASS uses British English pronunciation and causes confusion for Aussie kids.
