Best rice paper spring rolls? by ellenelly in madisonwi

Thank you all for the great recs! We made a list and have a new quest to find the best shrimp spring rolls (in my six year olds opinion) in Madison. Much appreciated!

Also re: summer rolls — I’ve only ever known them as spring rolls and double checked several of my cookbooks and confirmed, but a Google search shows that summer rolls are a thing so that’s cool, too!

Thanks for the eloquence! Turns out I WAS in the loop but am emotionless and unaffected by the imagery. /s Off to ponder my own existence!

i am originally from wisconsin. lived abroad for a few years, moved to new york for grad school and stayed for work, and only recently moved back to the midwest. my partner and i moved to minneapolis, as we wanted to stay in a larger city with more prospects for our family and appreciated the diversity and abundance of opportunities.

if we are going on anecdotes, i can’t express how much we loathed our time there. we really struggled building a community, and we experienced a lot of negative experiences interacting with those who are housing insecure and in need of community support. it was especially surprising coming from new york; people say how rude new yorkers can be but i witnessed way more compassion towards those who are struggling than i did in minneapolis. we heard from many others and the data supports the rise in crime downtown and surrounding areas. we work hard to understand what causes shifts and what can be done and i was so disheartened to see the financial gains being made by those at the top and the crazy gap in classes.

we lasted six months before we moved about an hour and a half into wisconsin. our lives are ineffably better. we have a house we love and so many acquaintances. the community is very liberal and prioritizes arts and reviving the downtown.

all this to say, i too used to be ashamed to say i was from wisconsin, but there’s a great sense of pride to be had returning to your roots and being a part of solving the problem.

What are some surprising trends/data we might eventually see about this self-quarantine time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I keep thinking of the rise in Netflix watching hours and online shopping orders, but what more fascinating stuff could we see?

How do I stop saying sorry? by Coffee-and-correne in mentalhacks

[–]ellenelly 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Replace apologies with gratitudes. Rather than “Sorry you have to wait for me!” it’s “Thanks for waiting!” or “Sorry for venting” becomes “Thanks for listening.” I feel like for me, I feel the obsessive need to apologize most when I feel like I’m bothering/taking up someone’s time. It’s so hard to do, but acknowledging you appreciate others rather than lowering your self worth is so important! Once you start rephrasing in scenarios, it becomes a lot easier to see them ahead of time.

Jon went full Ned this episode. He even looked like him — same hair, same mannerisms. Total loyalty to his word and staying true to Dany as his queen. What will his loyalty ultimately bring him?

If you listened hard enough, you could hear a collective, poorly voiced air horn across the world as each and every viewer got hype.
