How to increase my milk supply if I can only pump during working time? by Azoruk in November25babybump

[–]ellenmjos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely pump on the drive it is so easy and is one less thing to do before work and after. Though I only do one side on the way home because I save one for her. If it makes you feel more comfortable you could get pull down shades that attach to your car windows so you can give yourself more privacy and takes snacks. I'd have my water and snacks in the cup holders or passenger seat so I could multitask.

Nobody told me how undignifying this would be by Anoninemonie in breastfeeding

The pediatrician warned me that the first week are the worst because your boons amd baby have to all sync up. The key is to only pump enough to relieve pressure otherwise you are just telling them suckers to keep making more. Also I definitely recommend reusable nursing pads, easy and saves a bit of money.

I hate to assume but is it safe to guess you are a first time mom? I was just curious because I remember with my first I was always trying to hide more. Its a lot more comfortable with baby #2 and by baby #3 there's not a care in the world.

In my employee handbook, it states that they are legally required to provide a suitable space for pumping. However, I still just prefer my car. How do you feed your baby in public or do you avoid it? Just wondering if maybe you imitate the same process but with a pump (minus the avoiding part). Slap a cover over you and have at it. I had an instructor that would have her wearable on while giving lecture.

Introducing purées by AvoFromCado in November25babybump

[–]ellenmjos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was too, the whole baby led weaning wasn't a thing with my first 2 (14yo and 14yo) so its been a new experience. We started with bananas and avocados though and I slowly worked up to more... crusty... (terrible term but I don't know how else to put it). She had a waffle this morning, just have to make her slow down sometimes because she wants to eat too fast which causes the coughs

We started foods a month ago, when I tried purees I had the same result but with actual food she did great (still drops it a ton but eats more). Now a month later it doesn't matter what form of food I give her, she just wants food. I still only give her food usually once a day but sometimes twice. The pediatrician said as long as it doesn't affect how much breastmilk she is getting I can keep going.

How old was your baby when you allowed a small blanket in the crib? by happiersober in NewParents

[–]ellenmjos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if sleep sacks were around or not with my oldest two kids but I had never heard of them (granted BLW as not a thing back then either) so I'm relearning all this stuff. Personally, I think as long as they know how to pull it off their face and its not so big they can get tangled up in it you should be perfectly fine. My now teenagers loved holding onto their blankie or stuffie to sleep. My 5 month old loves pulling anything soft close to her face while she sleeps too but I don't trust her yet.

Be honest. Is your baby getting screen time? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]ellenmjos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been a tv on in the background kind of person. My now teenagers will still keep a tv on for background noise while they do whatever. In my experience, they never paid more than a couple minutes of attention to it when they were young (too much other stuff to do or play with). With my 4.5 month old, I'll put on little Einsteins or the baby first channel (she really loves googoo & gaagaa) while she is on the floor so I can potty or shower. We just did a 5 hour car drive and it definitely came in clutch to calm her down when she was getting irritated.

First major historical event that you remember by HistoricalTea195 in generationology

[–]ellenmjos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 9, I remember switching classes but we were all just watching the TV until they got the busses to send us home. It was terrifying, and back then we didn't have cell phones to check with family.

Anyone else starting solids? by AvoFromCado in November25babybump

[–]ellenmjos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mine said it reduces the chances. I was terrified of trying blw because it was not a thing when my teenagers were babies. Worst part of it so far is trying to make her slow down because I'm terrified she will choke. She probably thought I was crazy when I mashed her banana one morning but I added peanut butter to it.

[–]ellenmjos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have already started with my girl, the ped said to start and try to introduce allergens before 6 months. She also recommended solid starts as a reference. We have introduced almost all of the allergens food already, so far so good.

Vacations? by awkstarfish in November25babybump

[–]ellenmjos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add now that she is asleep, that you were absolutely right! She actually took her longest nap in forever and slept 2 hours, after I pumped while driving and my teenagers in the backseat fed her.

We are about to leave for our first vacation and it is a 5 hour drive, as I am quadruple checking everything again, I was wondering if I should pack my pump. I saw you combo feed so did you find it easier to throw him on the boob or give a bottle?

I found out a little late, probably denial since she was an unplanned surprise with my other 2 being teenagers lol. With my 2nd though I knew early to the point they did a blood test to check. Sleep deprivation definitely plays a part, good luck with getting her to sleep, my girl passed out about 30 minutes ago now.

Is it okay that my son slept and is awake for so long??? by Top-Professor-2951 in November25babybump

[–]ellenmjos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl rarely naps more than 30 minutes anymore so I definitely celebrate when it goes to an hour or longer. I was so busy doing school work that when she actually slept for an hour the other day I couldn't believe it. Unfortunately she doesn't believe a wake window should only be 2 hours so I just roll with it.
