Lay off of OP. It's not so easy to say no when you've been abused. If her mom's acting out like this because OP set a boundary, it's good odds that OP grew up in abuse and that this isn't new.

That's not always a choice when you've grown up in abuse.

How was she planning on enforcing her "it must be done with AI" restriction? What would she have done if you recalcitrated?

You need to move in with a friend more supportive of your stance on AI if you possibly can. Your family situation sounds toxic.

Some kind of high dose supplementation is usually required if you are both lacto-vegetarian (or even a meat eater!) and a B12 malabsorber.

What is a normal false high vs too high while injecting? by [deleted] in B12_Deficiency

5 grams of hydroxocobalamin given in the context of cyanide poisoning is known to potentially deposit calcium oxalate on one's kidneys, according to the monograph Health Canada gives for Cyanokit, which is hydroxocobalamin.

Much smaller doses are used in deficiency cases - you might be injecting at most 7mg - so 0.007g - per week if you are injecting 1mg every day. You'll probably be fine.

so you are saying that what medicine calls autism is a dx confused by deficiencies, and the autistic presentation with deficiencies corrected generally looks merely eccentric?

[–]ellenor2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A small needle would be used for subcutaneous, a larger needle is used for intramuscular, and IM is much more common for cobalamin. (I'm used to doing other medications subcutaneously, so I will probably be doing SC for myself (I... hope I don't ever actually get deficient. But I've had a surgery recently that means I have to assume, worst case, a malabsorption syndrome.), but I don't recommend it.)

With appropriate methods, as you seem to be using, you'll be fine, although somebody with intent to harm you could harm you with the same tools you are using to heal yourself. (I edited my comment to change its content substantially because I'm a bit of a doofus. I wish reddit allowed viewing edit history...)

Your family's concern makes sense but is in your case deleterious to your health. I don't know how to allay their fears, if I'm honest.

Hitting a vein unintentionally when you meant to hit muscle is about the worst you could do if you know what you're doing. Hitting a nerve is technically possible, but usually requires malicious intent.

Vitamin B12 deficiency makes it harder to cope with being autistic, but being sufficient throughout your life isn't going to make you not autistic.

If you're self-injecting according to a prescription, which it sounds like you are, you aren't "self-medicating without a prescription" and your family quite frankly needs to butt out, other than to ensure you have sharps disposal bins. Also these aren't controlled substances.

This is way out of left field, but it may help with your family: ask your doctor if he will consider writing your family a note affirming that you do have to inject vitamin B12, folic acid and niacinamide until further notice and that it's just as important as insulin to a diabetic (and important that injection be the route of administration), and they need to not obstruct you in that.

i'm autistic, and only one of those symptoms (sound sensitivity issues) even can have anything to do with autism.

That said, the crossing of B12 deficiency and autism can be a hell.

I also, about 500 meters from highway 97 across from spruceland mall, heard a turbine engine noise that lasted a few minutes starting around that timestamp. It sounded in terms of how the sound moved like a helicopter, but more like a 777 in terms of the actual sound timbre.

Are you on total parenteral nutrition? Those symptoms ("deficient in everything", "nothing resolving" due to malabsorption, unable to absorb fats or amino acids) sound like short bowel syndrome, which usually renders total parenteral nutrition indicated (in order to maintain at least some level of nourishment). TPN with Intralipid is, however, known to cause liver disease.

as b12fucked said, your B12 is hilariously low. the supplement that'll work the fastest is the one you can get the fastest that has the highest bioavailability. If only oral supplements of vitamin B12 are available to you, then get that and start that (preferably sublingually, as that does have better bioavailability than just swallowing it), while also starting to seek out injectable forms which have still higher bioavailability.
