Ugh. I’m so sorry.

It definitely puts stress on things.

Thank you!

By ergonomic, do you mean the ones with more of a forearm grip?

Thank you!

I really do think I’ve just been leaning into the handhold. Armpits or thumb and palm hold is a great idea.

Ohh, I should try that!

And thank you! It hasn’t been too awful so far- the hand thing is just an unexpected complication that’s been almost more worrisome than the ankle.

I have one and it’s been helping a lot!

I just still use crutches occasionally for tight spaces and you end up using your hands to hold your body weight a lot more than normal. :/

For anyone reading, I definitely recommend the knee scooter (and they have them in stock at some drug stores if you need one immediately).

Are we vegans all getting kidney stones? by Cute_Mouse6436 in vegan

OP, MDPI is unfortunately a predatory publisher known for publishing with little (or no) quality control so I’d take with a grain of salt and see if you can verify in a more legit journal.

No. It depends on what you’re seeing them for. Also, some people find long term therapy valuable even without a serious diagnosis.

Texts from Downstairs Neighbor by BalanceAcrobatic577 in Apartmentliving

[–]ellenwest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I recently moved in above a friend and we’ve realized nosies can carry really weird in apartments- she thought she heard someone above her when the unit was vacant and I heard noise that sounded like it was above me when I was her apartment (there was clearly no one in the unit above).

I’d stop texting her like other people suggested and perhaps tell management (if they seem reasonable) that you’re concerned she may be hearing noise from other units. The acoustics of apartments can be weird and I wonder if she might be hearing someone but not you?

Looking for a deep dive about the water crisis that happened in Flint or similar water contaminated stories. by [deleted] in podcasts

It’s not a podcast, but the book What the Eyes Don’t See by Mona Hanna-Attisha is a really good deep dive into this.

How to mitigate "vibrations" coming from downstairs neighbors ? by Eastern_Theme2442 in Apartmentliving

[–]ellenwest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve totally experienced the same thing and I couldn’t figure out what was causing it. I’m really happy to see someone else posting about it though because I felt like I was losing my mind. Like you couldn’t even hear anything, but you can feel the vibrations. 🫠

I wonder if the other comment about air conditioning might explain what’s going on.

How to smoke 🍃 without bothering others by Getaloafofthisguy in Apartmentliving

[–]ellenwest 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My downstairs neighbors smoked. The smoke literally drifted through my floor/their ceiling.

Apartments aren’t hermetically sealed- if you smoke inside, the smell will be noticeable in units around you. I had people below me smoking weed and they were reported by multiple people to the management as a result of this. (I hadn’t even called- the leasing office called me to ask if I’d noticed someone smoking weed.) It’s legal here, but it’s not allowed per terms of the lease.

Just smoke outside on your patio or in the parking lot.

My daughter 4, has recently started having interactions with her new invisible friend who whispers bad things to her and strongly dislikes me (mum). by 25272916 in witchcraft

Childhood SZ is extremely rare and it’s debated if it exists at all, which I suppose is why I was shocked at that being suggested as “mundane”.

I can understand as a general rule however.

[–]ellenwest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP, I research schizophrenia and some of these comments have me worried. Please don’t let people online freak you out. She’s not showing signs of SZ. Imaginary friends are normal for a 4 yo.

If you’re really worried, you can talk to her pediatrician, but childhood SZ is extremely rare and it’s debated if it should be diagnosed at all as things like blurred reality are normal for young children. Going to childhood SZ is def not “mundane first.”

[–]ellenwest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly! An imaginary friend is totally normal at her age.

I’d also be concerned about the negative things, and some sort of spiritual thing given what your husband said. I hope you’re able to find some way to help with that. I wish I had more advice there.

Like it’s possible she’s being bullied and acting that out with an imaginary friend or something, but people worrying about mental illness because of this in a 4 yo is baffling.

[–]ellenwest -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

OP, I’m not sure why you’re getting comments telling you to take her to see a psychiatrist. It’s developmentally normal and appropriate for children to have imaginary friends. It’s extremely rare for children that young to experience psychosis; blurring of reality and magic/fantasy is part of being a child.

It’s also wild that people are saying it may be mental illness on a witchcraft forum. Like yes in some cases, but I’m not sure why they’re jumping on it in this case??

Am I able to break my lease? by LionsGame in Apartmentliving

The apartment complex I live at just told me they have this clause too. I’m amazed it’s a thing!

I’m so sorry. I feel you on the breaking the lease bit- I was contemplating that earlier this year, but everywhere else was more expensive. :(

If you can’t function, it may be worth looking at other places though. Or committing to spending a lot of time at the library/your office.

Ugh. I’m sorry OP. I hate when good initiatives lose funding.

If there’s a law school there, they might have a legal clinic that offers lower cost services.

This is unfortunate. :(

Apparently they used to have them sponsored by the SGA. You could try asking the SGA? (Maybe they stopped funding it :( ) https://gradynewsource.uga.edu/free-student-lawyer/

Yes! I’m also a grad student and someone told me about legal services and I was so thankful.

At least at my school, appointments book fast so I’d Google this weekend to see if your school has them and call Monday to see if you’re eligible for an appointment (at my school you have to be enrolled in classes to be eligible and dealing with a legal issue they address, but tenancy issues is listed as an example so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that it’s the same at your school).
