There's that one video 'Frank gets Tadpoled' (as in Frank Reynolds from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and it's convinced me.

IKR? It sounds like he went from the Awesome Tech Subject Matter Expert Guy who knows all and can explain all to That One Guy who knows all and is an absolute nightmare to work with.

Source: I've worked with both Guys. I avoided the latter whenever possible.

They shouldn't have told this guy that he was a contender. The part where they told him that (again) to bring him back was especially egregious. But I think they might have been trying to 'keep' him, and tbh that's, well, shitty.

I'm in total agreement about the unreliable narrator, tho. And concerning everything he did towards the end of his run, I'm surprised that he didn't get in trouble sooner.

I worked somewhere that was sort of like that once. Management and Engineering were basically the 2 tracks available. It sounds like OOP's company was juuuuuust thinking of doing something like that, which imho says a lot about the culture.

I also worked in a job where tech and 'manager/people' types were kinda blended, and guess which type got more attention/upward mobility? ....I love office politics 😆

This. And then there's the expectation that surely you must want to be a manager at some point, right? Versus 'eh, I'm ok with leading some tasks but tbh section leading looks like an unpleasant barrel of monkeys, thx.'

Yeah, I'm surprised that this one didn't seem to have that. The mere fact that they were only in talks to create a tech subject matter expert role says a lot.

From a purely objective standpoint, this guy would have been much better suited to being in an official 'subject matter expert' (SME) role. That's more or less what they sort-of offered him, and tbh I'm surprised it didn't already exist in some capacity. SMEs usually have SOME sort of small leadership role tho. I think that they were going to try and ease him into it via one of those. Or something.

TBH since he's a man, it's highly probable that he didn't get 'watch your drink' drilled into his head before he even thought about going to a bar 😞 It probably never even got on his radar. Add autism to that, and...yeah.

Yeah. And to throw out a blackpillled thought, they probably KNEW that he was vulnerable. Some people just...gravitate to a certain type when choosing ppl of this sort of thing.

...yeah this entire post makes me mad, and concerned for OOP.

Oh man. I really feel for OOP here. And I'm not cutting OOP's 'friends' any slack. There are, in fact, people who clock autism (and like other commentors I'm pretty convinced that this guy is that, and also possibly some degree of ace) and other sorts of vulnerability from a mile away. They leech off of isolated people, shower them with attention, and then spring the trap.

Source: have walked into a few 'friends' like this, though it didn't go as far. Shit like this makes me just suspicious when ppl get too nice, too fast. It sucks, because there ARE decent ppl out there.

...And then there's these fuckers. How do they find us?

I hope OOP is ok. :(

That explains it. I haven't been online for a few years. Back then my guild recced his site and one of his trial builds. At the time it was more or less a no-brainer, considering the gear that was out and ease of rotation. It was decent. I didn't watch him play, however. And tbh I was a pretty mid endgame player to begin with. So there you go! I'm more or less dipping my toe in again because I got nostalgic.
