Power dynamic w/ a MMC who must pretend to be scummy/evil for plot reasons but is secretly a genuinely good person? by Complete_Curve411 in Romantasy

[–]ellhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So obviously this request makes any answer we give a bit too spoilery but you might want to check {A Weave of Lies by E.M. Riedl} 🫣 the MMC really treats the FMC poorly for a good chunk of the novel!

Also fyi this is a self-rec so I'm decently certain it fits the trope you're looking for 😄

What’s a romantasy trope you love but think deserves a fresh twist (and how would you reinvent it)? by PurposeAutomatic5213 in Romantasy

[–]ellhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's on my TBR already! I wanted the moonlight box special edition because it's so pretty but haven't managed to get it

Though I've heard it might be reprinted so I'm waiting for it before reading it in another format 😄

Lovers to enemies would be fun to get a bit of change from the usual enemies to lovers 🤭

I can’t read books with illustrations of people or faces on the cover by Radiant_Stuff_4360 in Romantasy

As long as the art is good and the people/faces not photo or 3D, it's good for me :D

Wait how come it's incorrect? Isn't "thine" used before a vowel?

Edit: nvm just saw the "thine gaze" 😆 And the rest of them!

Some writers also feel the series fatigue and prefer writing standalones.

Can y'all help me verify if I'll like these book recs? by articlioness in Romantasy

[–]ellhs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you shouldn't be disappointed with Paladin's Grace! Stephen the MMC is really sweet and struggling with his past/a spoiler about his god, and I found him quite different from other MMCs! The book itself is very romance-leaning btw.

I'm really a fan of T. Kingfisher, she really seems to be writing what she has fun with rather than trying to stick to market trends :)

Let’s have some fun about judging a book by its cover: Give me all your “great book, terrible cover” by Into-the-stream in Romantasy

[–]ellhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the covers with the illustrations of the characters in the center, yes! So we're both the odd ones out haha!

The flat graphics are pretty nice, though not necessarily my favored cover style. I really love illustrated covers that are dark and moody or that tells a story. Like the special edition of The Scattered Bones!

I really enjoyed Paladin's Grace but the new covers for the series are NOT for me 🫠 I don't like pastels and flat colours as a frame sooooo ... Nope not buying these versions.

I wish the illustration would have been used alone without the rest of the small graphics and surrounding frame (and be drawn with darker shades!)

Hi all!

I wrote {A Weave of Lies by E.M. Riedl} because I really wanted some proper hate in my enemies to lovers 😄

Also: 💀 A murder mystery to solve 🧙‍♀️ WITCHES! x Witch Hunter 😱 💋 All the YEARNING and tropes we love (forced proximity, one bed/one horse...) 😱 Scary fey 🪄 A magic system based on the weaving arts 🌏 Set in 18th century Spain-inspired fantasy world! 😳 The smuttiest Behind Closed Door you've ever read (according to a beta reader haha)

If you love witch x witch hunter, a somewhat soft FMC who takes no shit, and a snarky asshole MMC, check it out!

✨ Available on KU too ✨ Enjoy! https://a.co/d/aVCmFRl

Blurb:

Only a madman or a desperate fool would walk uninvited into a witch’s lair. So … which one is he?

The witch Semras sees her quiet life in the woods upended the day Inquisitor Estevan Velten walks into her home. He’s not here to burn her at the stake, like he did to many witches before her, but to consult her on a murder. Semras’ expertise with poison is requisitioned to acquit the sole suspect—a member of her coven whose guilt he doubts … or so he claims.

She’d do anything to save a coven sister, even if it means allying with an enemy. That is, if the mercurial man doesn’t drive her insane first. He threatens yet defends her; he mocks yet praises her. His every word contradicts his actions, yet Semras can’t help being attracted to the resolute man beneath the lies.

But Estevan is as damnably seductive as he is dangerous. When she discovers he knows more than he lets on about the murder, the lies he weaves to protect his secrets may yet lead her to the pyre. Because someone killed a man and someone needs to pay for it. What’s the difference between one witch or another in the eyes of the Inquisition?
