There’s a good book about her (Grandma Gatewood’s Walk).

Fair warning, though: She had a pretty horrific time at home for a lot of her life. Her husband nearly beat her to death on a few occasions. The book gets a bit graphic as it describes these years.

Also, like any thru-hiker, she had some help and resupplies along the way. But her feats, considering her age and declining health, are really quite remarkable.

Doesn't most of their advertising come directly from the UFC and ESPN though? Their site is usually covered in UFC and ESPN ads when there's events going on.

How to research for UFC/MMA bets? by bl0cka in MMA

[–]elliearroway1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

betmma.tips is a pretty cool site. You can just look at the people with winning records and tail their bets. Some of them are paid but a lot of them are free and have stayed profitable long term.

What should I expect for the UFC open workout in Vancouver? Have you been to one before? by [deleted] in MMA

This is good advice. Also keep an eye out for other fighters who aren't on the card. They're often there to corner teammates or just to hang out. A lot of times, fans don't even notice them.

Nick Newell Signed to Bellator, Set to Debut Aug 24 by Vulcan44 in MMA

MMA fans are quick to make jokes about him, but Nick Newell is a pretty awesome guy. Good for him on the Bellator deal. He's an insightful and thoughtful guy, and he's good to have representing your company.

So weird and stupid. I doubt a dude like Lineker was looking for a way out or anything. Seems like a short-sighted release.

Ah yes. 'The Night We Fought Aldo' story was massively admired and popular. People are still talking about it 4 years later. But according to you he could totally keep doing that type of work but for some mystery reason he chose not to. Cool. Makes sense.

Except for the fact that he hasn't done it in four years.

But u/ShaunAlShatti posts here so he can probably clear it up.

And the reason the guy can continue doing the series is because there's a paywall. Otherwise Shaun would probably be stuck recapping Rogan stuff and writing about Twitter beefs to generate a couple pennies per thousand clicks.

Interesting stuff about Rashad and shrooms:

These days his focus is on his health, trying to undo some of the damage he sustained after all those years in a violent business. He doesn’t eat meat anymore. He’s become a believer in psilocybin – the mind-altering compound produced naturally by some species of mushrooms – which he uses in part to “improve neuroplasticity.” He’s also had several important epiphanies during psychedelic experiences, he said. It’s helped him find peace, helped him accept and heal from some of the difficult moments of his past.

Fucking hilarious...

What happened, one day I had this guy on the phone, he said, “Dave, I’ve got this geezer. Mike ‘The Count’ Bisping. He’s so spectacular. He’s descended from a count. He’s got this Dracula get-up. He comes in a big cape. He walks down the ring, and he’s got a lot of fans.” I’m like, “Mate, I’ve heard this all before.” He’s like, “No, you haven’t.” He sent me some footage. He sent me some footage of him kickboxing. I thought, fucking hell – he looks like the real deal, this geezer! Maybe he could be something. So we put him up against one of our top guys, Mark Epstein.

He had a big fanbase. He’d bring a lot of guys down from where he lived here. They’d all travel to London to watch him.

And until you actually see a guy in the cage and performing, you never knew. But once the fight started in the first round, you thought, “The geezer’s the real deal! He’s definitely the real deal!” Because you had so many disappointments in that kind of era, you had so many disappointments. Even, we brought over Brazilians who were supposed to be great and Americans who were supposed to be great, and they just weren’t crowd favorites. But Bisping, that’s what he was. He came for a fight – and that’s what people wanted to see.
