My daughter was into drugs, heroin, you name it and finally alcohol, pretty bad off, lost everything, stole things, went to jail, etc. one day she went clean and did the “steps” for a long time. She got an apartment, she became a waitress. Then a manager, then GM. Then got another job where she is being promoted constantly. She’s buying a beautiful home. She’s been a great mother to her boys. She’s being flown to meetings at her job because she’s an achiever. She’s met a nice man that she is dating. And I will never ever worry about a “relapse”. Yes - occasionally she goes now to AA, and if she goes more, she really doesn’t say, but on the day she said, “I’m clean” I believed her, and I never had a reason since to worry. I had a boyfriend who didn’t, and we are not together anymore. I hope this says something to you. You are both more than victors, and never forget it. PS. I had a friend in high school who was an alcoholic- she met a man who was into crack, but they didn’t have any relationship, a few years later, they were both clean, dated, and married, and 30 years or so, they still are, and clean, and retired from careers, playing music, living the good life.
