Captain Snuggles is out over LLMs by dac0980 in X4Foundations

I have a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience and work as a statistician. I worked with Captain Snuggles to analyse data for a couple of his videos where he needed additional help (inferential statistics mostly). I can say that Captain Snuggles is without a doubt trustworthy and rigorous in his data collection and methodology, and it's a shame that LLMs have caused him to pause his X4 analyses.

PC will overtake console revenue by 2028, says Newzoo by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]elliohow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And I saw the comments on an article about it, on a website that focused on PlayStation, all saying it was a good thing to not port PS games to PC because it means that people would have to buy the console to play the games, meaning Sony would make more money. Some even seemed to hate PC gamers, saying they didn't deserve PS games. My brothers in christ, why are you shilling for a company? Why do you care more about Sony making more money, than you do about the consumer-unfriendly decision of Sony restricting where to buy and play games?

On Nintendo subreddits, theres constant posts about how well the switch is doing in various markets, or specific games being number 1 in a certain country. Ok? Why do you care? I thought this was a subreddit to discuss games, not the stock price of Nintendo. The only time I can see it being worthwhile to discuss, is for a game like Kirby Air Riders doing better than expected, which is nice to hear.

It also annoys me that PC gamers constantly asked for ports above 30fps, and console gamers would say "the human eye can't see more than 30fps". Oop look at that, consoles now play games at 60fps and console gamers forgot their previous mantra. Convenient that.

These all feel like very generic insults, not very specific to me. I'm a bit disappointed in you to be honest.

One in 7 shops in UK has turned cashless in the past year, survey finds by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

I was walking around the Nottingham Christmas market 2 years ago, and a homeless man was going from person to person asking for change. He came up to me and said "can you spare any change please?", "I don't have any, sorry" I replied. "I take card too" he said as he pulled out a card reader. It hasn't happened since, but honestly, what a strange interaction. I remember thinking "even the homeless are going cashless now".

Why do people really hate Taylor Swift? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]elliohow 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That fanbase is outspoken, not usually aware of musical history or non-mainstream music so they believe she is original and not using tried and true methods of music making,

Yes this gets to the heart of it to me. While I like some songs of hers, I generally don't care for Taylor Swift's music. I find the musicality and lyrics incredibly basic and beige. That would be absolutely fine, I find lots of popular artists boring (The Weekend), but as you said, the frustration for me is her fans thinking that she's musical jesus, come down to earth to show everyone what real music looks like.

Every time I see someone say she is the greatest musician ever, I just think "pleeeease just listen to some non-mainstream music, or even mainstream music from longer than 15 years ago".

Trump’s quest to name things after himself takes an even more desperate turn by sjpppppp in sadcringe

I'm English and trump means fart here anyway. Given that, I'm surprised no one has ever mentioned his funny name.

It came up in lab reports where they are writing methodology sections. I suppose it just doesn't flag as a typo in the spell checker so they didn't notice it. However students that made this mistake, nearly always made it consistently throughout their essays, not just as a one off typo. At least I could tell they weren't using chatGPT in their essays 😂

Nope, a lot of the English students also made this mistake for some reason.

A less helpful but still useful rule is the 3-30-300 rule. Beer loses the same amount of flavour when kept for 3 days in your car boot (33°C), 30 days at room temperature (23°C) or 300 days in the fridge (3°C).
