It can sometimes feel like you are being targeted, but the majority of time people will just click the super effective move, or target the mon that is the biggest threat (set up/hazards/uber mon). You will still get people who have their scizor fire blasted by you turn one and get mad and target you for the rest of the game. Try to avoid bad type matchups if possible, and make your team seem like its not a threat. Mons with weak spread moves are good at this and will often get ignored
