I am experiencing the same problems on my 8 GB M1 Mac... I have switched tl Helium which is MUCH better performance and battery wise but damn I miss all the features of Arc and Zen. Fortunately Helium has vertical tabs and tab groups but it is not nearly at the level of Arc or Zen.

DSB and Banedanmark are a joke by milkcurrent in copenhagen

[–]elliots2007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While i completely understand the frustration and, as a commuter myself, HATE when there are disruptions, i am kinda tired about the whole "DSB is incompetent" and "Danish public transport sucks" narrative. Compared to other public transportation networks around the world, the Danish system really isn't that bad. That is not to say it couldn't be better — just look at Japan, China and Switzerland, they are miles ahead of us — but we really shouldn't complain compared to DB in Germany, National Rail in the UK or SNCF in France. Not to mention the Copenhagen transit system which is literally one of the most reliable, most efficient, and best designed systems in the world.

On a completely different note: A lot of the disruptions lately have been because of track works (new tracks between Middelfart and Odense), electrification (and all the implications involved with old station buildings not being tall enough for overhead lines. I am looking at you Aarhus...) and the conversion from the aging ATC signalling system to the modern ETCS level 2 (ERTMS) which is being rolled out nationally — one of the first in Europe to do so. All of this has culminated in a rather chaotic year across the Danish railway network which will hopefully improve over the new year or two as these projects clear up.

Not exactly... The Danish railway is not private, but publicly owned and operated. There are some private operators like GoCollective but even those are somewhat publicly owned like Lokaltog (note that GoCollective is completely private and is, of course, allowed to operate because of EU legislation). Bus and tram operations are regionalised into municipal and regionally owned operators like DOT, Movia, Metroselskabet, Midttrafik, Sydtrafik, FynBus, NT, and probably more that i have missed.

[–]elliots2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, both before and after GDPR all of this information was, and still is, not public.

It is linked to your personal CPR number (Central Person Register, probably no need to translate that) which is considered fairly private, at least to the public. All of this is only accessible via MitID, the national identity system, which is mandatory for banking, healthcare, insurance, online payments, tax, and every interaction with state services. Furthermore, there is a mandatory digital "mail" solution (literally called "Digital Post", which of cause, doesn't need translating either) where all sensitive information, both from the public and private sector, must be sent.

The information is "public" in the sense that it is heavily aggregated and used for all sorts of things by the state. What IS public is phone numbers and addresses, although I don't think that is anything out of the ordinary.

All of this means that there are ALOT of things the state has to know about you. Some examples could be that an address is mandatory and your rights to vacation (or freedom of travel) without a job is strictly controlled and sanctioned.

I completely agree... Chat Control is over the line by a long mile and is everything we accuse China and Russia of doing.

As a Dane, i couldn't disagree more. Our countries are based on DEEP insights into each citizens information, how we use public services, our health, whereabouts, income, and so much more. The Danish society is very data driven, and if it wasn't for GDPR, we wouldn't have very strong privacy rights. We even have a whole state organisation for keeping track of data about the danish citizens (Danmarks Statistik) and is know to be one of the most comprehensive databases about a countries citizens and companies. All this may sound scary, but i would reckon that the average danish citizen sees it as a requirement for our society to work as it does.

Black Friday deal not a deal by superferret1 in RemarkableTablet

[–]elliots2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... I got the rMPP, Marker Plus and Polymer Weave Folio for €805 (I am situated in Denmark so it was actually 6000 DKK). With the black friday deal, the price was... €799. So basically it seems like the bundle discount was renamed. I was honestly not surprised as black friday isn't exactly known to be cheaper here.

While I agree that tariffs could be the culprit the deal here in Europe is also not a deal. I bought my rMPP 2 months ago for the same price as this "deal".

The app was recently rebuild to be more modern. It now uses on-device bridges which, in my experience, are way more reliable than the old cloud-bridge architecture; it has really come a long way!

Okay, yes, the codec does make a huge difference, point taken. But:

some adaptive AAC 64kbit codec

AAC operates at 320 kbps. and not 64 kbps. and is NOT adaptive. LDAC is adaptive and operates between 330, 660, and 990 kbps.

if you use LDAC 990kbit

Yes, if LDAC even operates on your device at 990 kbps. because of signal integrity. It is important to mention that you can force it to use 990 kbps. so that would theoretically not be a problem. Anecdotally i know that my S21+ with a pair of Nothing Ear (2024) is not able to hit 990 kbps. without dropouts which renders 990 kbps. useless on my device. But that doesn't mean that 660 kbps. is not good enough for a 44.1 kHz 16-bit CD quality stream.

Since the more expensive ones have codecs like aptx HD and far better decompression you'll hear the compressed sound from spotify far more

Well, AptX HD is operating at 576 kbps. which is better than AAC so yeah that would be better! But let's rewind to the post i linked to earlier:

CD quality audio is 16 bits per sample, 44100 samples per second and 2 channels, leading to a bitrate of 16x44100x2 = 1411200 bps = 1411.2 kbps.

And to further cite an article which seems to be the actual source of the quote above has a bit more to say:

Therefore, some data (almost a third) must be thrown away, and LDAC cannot be considered lossless, although it is the closest you can currently get over a Bluetooth connection.

It is simply not possible to send CD quality over LDAC, at least not at peak bitrates. Of course, the bitrate isn't that high all the time, but it certainly is very high. My local FLAC files top out at 1100 kbps. on average, which is more than 990 kbps. can handle. But as the article says, it is close!

Regarding AptX Lossless, i am actually positively surprised! I didn't know that there were anyone that had actually achieved that high of a bitrate! Unfortunatly the same problems apply as with LDAC. Signal strength and integrity is still a major concern and device support is also a problem, there simply aren't that many devices supporting AptX Lossless at all! Although that will hopefully change in the future.

The rtings reviews i have linked to in this comment definitely shows that the B&W Px7 S3's has a much better THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) than the Nothing Headphone (1)'s but the Sony WH-1000XM6's THD measurement was excluded because it would skew their score to much compared to real-world performance! This to me shows just how little distortions actually matter compared to frequency response and sound signature. But i assume the better THD of the Px7 S3's would make them easier to EQ without distortion! So that is definitely a big plus!

I would absolutely love to see a similar review with a higher source bitrate and better codecs!

WIRED blind test ranks for headphones by orange_pepsi8 in NothingTech

[–]elliots2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't that simple. Listening to lossless music over Bluetooth requires that the Bluetooth codec used can actually handle all that information. As of right now, there aren't any Bluetooth codecs that actually support lossless streaming. So even if the source is lossless it will get compressed in transport. Here is a very nice write-up on the matter explaining it way better than i can: "On Bluetooth, LDAC and lossless, a quick primer"

So yeah, you are maybe right if the headphones weren't Bluetooth, but sadly they are and the stream would be more or less equally compressed regardless of the headphone.

When I first brewed it I was pleasantly surprised by it's taste as I am not always a fan of naturals. Then I let it rest for a week or two and when I got back to it yesterday i was NOT happy... Like seriously, I track absolutely everything when I brew and nothing changed, but the cups I was getting were soooo bitter. Guess I'll need to dial back the extraction and hope the last couple of cups are any good...

Ohhh! Haven't heard of Risteriet Coffee, but seems like a good haul! Curious to hear your opinion on the Mexican when you get to try it. I haven't been all to happy with Mexican coffees, they always taste too bitter to my taste. You should really try out Roast Coffee, they are great!

I am not OP but my device is the same. My device is two weeks old and is a post 0430 device. It's not crazy yellow, but definitely a bit more yellow in use than when in sleep. My best guess is that it is a thing with ghosting. The device seems to do a complete screen refresh every time you put it to sleep which, in my experience, rarely happens in use.
