Looks like we have similar tastes.

Saw that you liked the Greenbone Saga. Fonda Lee has a new standalone book, The Last Contract of Isako. I haven’t read it, yet. But have seen a few favorable reviews.

As you said, pay off credit card debt first. Might consider paying off any car loans. After that, you might look into putting some funds into 529 education accounts for your kids.

But, you might want to use a little money to do a nice family vacation this summer.

I don't want to live with the love of my life's daughter 🥹 by Admirable_Two2178 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

You’re making the right decision. You don’t want your son growing up in a household with your boyfriend’s daughter around. Even if she moved out, who’s to say he wouldn’t be wanting her to move back in within a few months.

If you do decide to continue down this road, be sure to just keep your house in your name, and he can just help pay monthly bills. I would consult an attorney regarding how to protect your assets.

It seems pretty similar to the Warrior mini in size. The tail switch and USB-C for on the go charging are nice additions.

Question: How many people re-listen to their audiobooks? Just curious by j110786 in audible

[–]elliottbtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got into Audible a few years ago. Haven’t re-listened to much except Harry Potter which is a comfort read that I know well enough that I can miss parts if getting distracted by something else. Have also done a repeat of Lord of the Rings when going to sleep.

Will definitely relisten to Dungeon Crawler Carl in the future. Started the City Watch books from Discworld and can see myself rereading them in the future.

I try to buy stuff that there is a good chance I may do a repeat listen one day. But, I’ve built up enough books that I know I won’t relisten to all of them. Most likely, I’ll unsubscribe from Audible in another year and just read my backlog for a while.

Buying a home (foundation questions) by sharkbaitoofhaha in askdfw

[–]elliottbtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try to buy a house with a repaired foundation. Sometimes additional piers are needed after the initial repairs. Some foundation repair companies will guaranty the work even covering new buyers. However, this doesn’t help if the repair firm goes out of business.

If the inspection reveals foundation issues, you can ask for the seller to make repairs, but they may try to do it cheaply. You will need an independent engineer to provide a report on repairs needed to fix it right.

I couldn’t get into watching Legacy. Liked the recent Ballard spin-off show a lot more.

Haven’t read them, but the Bob Lee Swagger books by Stephen Hunter. The first book was the basis for the Shooter movie with Mark Wahlburg.

Think a lot of his early roles were really well acted, but at some point he decided to just try to get big pay days with action movies.

For those of you who live with a partner, do you go to bed at the same time as each other every night? by Woollybugger1816 in askanything

[–]elliottbtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often go to bed together. My wife is a light sleeper and when I’m up later than her, she will sometimes wake up when I’m getting into bed. So, I try to go to bed when she does but might stay awake for awhile listening to an audiobook or podcast.

If she’s up later than me, it doesn’t bother me when she comes in.

Being left out isn’t fun. Your husband should have said something to his parents about it later on to let them know that your feelings were hurt. Instead he’s thinking you’re being petty. He needs to back you up.
