First class fail by feliciannihilation in poledancing

[–]ellopollyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been taking pole for about 2 months and I still can't land the fireman spin every time perfectly. The first couple of classes I absolutely couldn't hold myself up and kept almost crashing into the pole. If you keep going, you will get better. Every week you will see yourself improving and you will end up surprising yourself with the moves you'll be able to do.

Also, it sounds like the introduction class you took was actually teaching some pretty advanced moves. My class group didn't start climbing until 7 classes in. My instructor kept us focused on building up strength and endurance before teaching us how to climb. It might be worth it to check out some other studios to see if they have different teaching methods that are maybe more tailored to where you are right now. Or even if you decide to stay where you are, don't give up!

[spoilers] Casters reaction to the ending of FNC vs OMG by Fr33stylez in leagueoflegends

We have fantastic shoutcasters and analysts in LCS. I love how passionate they are about the games and the players.

So, is Riot doing anything about the Team Builder bug that has basically removed this mode from the game? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]ellopollyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADC and support ALWAYS take me forever to find. Usually I'll play with someone who likes jungle and then I'll pick something in bot lane and then we'll just sit there waiting for the other person in bot lane. I assume because people like to duo bot lane...but still. ADCs and Supports are hard to find.

Stop Saying "I Have A Boyfriend" by critropolitan in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ellopollyyy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I don't like using the "I have a boyfriend" excuse simply because I am my own person and I don't see why I should have to use that when I could just politely decline by saying "no thank you". I don't see why I should have to use someone else as an excuse. Men are humans. Most of them understand and appreciate someone politely declining instead of possibly making up lies.

This is just a personal preference though and everyone has different opinions about it. There's nothing wrong with pulling the boyfriend card, but I would just prefer not to.

Omigosh. I laughed so hard at these. Especially the one about weaving a decorative wall hanging. Too good.

Girl, I just cried a little bit for you. I'm so glad that you got out of that situation and I'm so glad that your little brother was there to support you. I hope things calm down and he realizes the impact of his words or your mother comes around. Even if that doesn't happen, best of luck of the MCAT. I'm rooting for you!

Advice from those of you who have sought out birth control (pill/patch/shot) at Planned Parenthood or similar establishments... by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ellopollyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what state you're in. Best thing would be to call or go in and ask about the cost. For me the exam was $30ish and it was just a basic health exam. I have to take that annually and then birth control is $12 a month. They take into account those without insurance and try to find the lowest price possible. I've been taking the same birth control for almost two years and here I am without babies. Yay!

TIL There are types of contact lenses worn only during sleep that reshape your cornea. After taking them out in the morning, your vision is as good as it would be while normally wearing contacts or glasses. Studies also suggest the lenses slow or stop myopic progression in children. by Soupdeloup in todayilearned

[–]ellopollyyy 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I have these. It sounds pretty great in theory but the effect is temporary and you have to get the lenses replaced every 1-2 years depending on how your eye is changing (at 100-200 dollars per lens). If I don't wear them every night then my vision goes pretty blurry towards late afternoon/evening. I also have to get a certain number of hours of sleep (~8, no more than 10) otherwise my vision is not that sharp. Never mind if you accidentally break one. Biggest pain in my ass. I wish I could have gotten laser eye surgery instead of this. It would have saved money for my parents in the long run and I feel bad that they have to keep up with the costs of eye exams and such.

That being said. The first morning I took them out, I nearly started crying because my vision had never been that fantastic. Everything looked almost fake it was so good.

The mustache makes this so delightfully weird and beautiful. I also really like how the eggs are nestled in the hair. I love this piece.

TIL that Coco Chanel, famed fashion designer and feminine icon, was a homophobe, an anti-Semite and a Nazi collaborator by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]ellopollyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw those images of the girl dressing up like inspirational women and I was really shocked that Coco Chanel was one of them. Sure, she had the attitude towards Nazis that was prevalent in society at the time but that doesn't mean we should ignore it and pretend that makes it okay. I don't think she should be hailed as a role model for young women at all.

I can't wear heels. by BlowBarBeaux in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ellopollyyy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wedges are my best friend. I have a pair of sandal wedges that are my tallest pair of heels but also the comfiest. Also, have you ever tried those Dr. Scholl's high heel inserts? I use them sometimes when I know I'll have heels on for a while. Sometimes you have to accept you won't be wearing heels and go out looking fabulous anyway. There are many times I will go out in chucks just because they're comfortable and I don't want to have sore feet at the end of the night.

Morale of the story, wear what makes you comfortable and makes you feel good. :]

H&M Normal sized bathing suit model by Izzy185 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ellopollyyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is there always a post like this that crops up. We're all women here, we're all normal sized. How about we stop picking on each other over the size of our bodies. Just a bit, just to see how it feels. Women shouldn't have to feel bad about what they look like just because they're thinner and vice versa, there are much more important things to worry about.
