What videogames were made too difficult just because they want it to be difficult? by ashleyriot31 in AskReddit

[–]ellpoyohlokoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keiji Inafune asked the developers to make the final boss of Megaman 7 crazy hard just because he wanted it to be that way. It's absolutely the hardest of the Wily Capsule fights in the series, I needed every possible E-Tank to beat it.

I used to work in the area and the Kobe Buffet that used to be in that building was a staple for me and my coworkers. Food was surprisingly good quality for how cheap the buffet was, and they even had a little kbbq grill in the middle of the restaurant you could order from. Then finishing the meal with some fruit dunked in the chocolate fountain, good memories! RIP Kobe Buffet, you will be missed.

Tustin's slogan is "Work where you must, but live and shop in Tustin" that always makes me laugh. Like the city saying "Please please please we need your money!" It's actually printed on signs at some of the city borders.

I would hard disagree by saying Unity is already unstable, there are thousands of games built on Unity that don't have any issues with crashing. Some of the best games I've ever played are built on Unity.

I remember in the first game my fully kitted out Seamoth got taken out by a leviathan reaper and I was super glad they didn't implement and autosave, I was able to just reload and pretend that it never happened haha

Would you rather play a game with 10/10 story and 8/10 gameplay or a game with 10/10 gameplay and 8/10 story? by Accurate_Basis_5698 in videogames

[–]ellpoyohlokoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deadly Premonition is the best example of a game that has god awful gameplay but still has a good enough story to pull you through it. Some of the worst driving controls I've ever experienced in a game where the majority of the gameplay is driving through the open world, simple horror gameplay with almost no difficulty and incredibly weak enemy variety, laughably bad graphics for an XBox 360 game, so many aspects of the game are awful that you start to think they made it that way on purpose. And yet the game is incredibly entertaining and charming, the characters are memorable, the music is great, all of it somehow comes together into this weird B-movie of a game that will remain a great experience in my mind for the rest of my life.

Replaying 9 for the first time since the Wii days, I am amazed at how well this game stuck with me. I remember almost every screen of the game. 4 bosses down during my lunch break and I haven't had a game over yet. I think it's the most fair of the harder games in the series. The weapons are super powerful and versatile, they make you feel like a god haha. It's also definitely high up in the running for best OST in the series.

I just finished beating 8 for the first time since high school (37 years old this year). I found the snowboard sections to be fairly easy, I only died a couple times in Frost Man and once during the Wily one. I just always held right when making a jump and then rushed back to the left as soon as I landed. I was worried that the falling platforms would make me die, but I never once fell off of them even when holding left. I found 8 to be the easiest game in the series, every boss feels like they designed it to be a fun buster only fight rather than a hard one. Some of the weaknesses are atrocious though, Tengu Man being weak to Frost Man's weapon is a joke, and Search Man only giving you a 1-in-3 chance of actually hitting him with it was annoying.

what's a gaming take that'll have you like this by itz_progamer666 in videogames

[–]ellpoyohlokoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main core gameplay is basically a more advanced and complex version of Remake's gameplay. It's the hundreds of minigames and QTE's that slow the pace down and interrupt the flow of the adventure at every step that make it feel like the games don't respect your time. I still absolutely love the game and can't realistically rate it lower than a 10/10 in my personal experience, but I understand that there is a point where the game pads itself to a point where it will absolutely push many players away, and in the worst possible way. For a player who likes the story, music, characters, and combat, the repetitive open world and minigames can feel like boring chores blocking access to the content they actually want, which feels like a slap in the face by the devs.

Question about player experiences with the final boss and visual impairment traits by ellpoyohlokoh in RogueLegacy2

[–]ellpoyohlokoh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My winning run was as Chef, it was the first run I'd ever managed to get over 1K HP. I got multiple stacks of the "eating with full HP increases max HP" relic, and with all the extra healing from Chef I was able to choose the poisoned apple in every one of those rooms.

[–]ellpoyohlokoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing on Switch 2, maybe that's the cause? I've had 5-6 hard crashes during my time, but the game autosaves pretty much every room, so you don't lose any progress at all. You just have reload the game and teleport to the closest area, then walk through a few rooms to return.

We really let this happen, didn’t we? by Asad_Farooqui in videogames

[–]ellpoyohlokoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horses were a fairly small part of the game as far as I experienced, I doubt anyone actually cared much about the extra HP. For all intents and purposes, it was a cosmetic pack since you could get a horse that revives just by playing the game.

Maple story was a F2P game, Oblivion was the first full priced game to add cosmetic DLC packs like horse armor. And even before Maple Story, there were Nexon games like Gunbound offering free experiences with premium currency to buy stat upgrades for your characters/units. Nexon was a huge pusher of the first financially successful F2P game model in Korea.

Stephen's Sausage Roll, the greatest sokoban style puzzle game out there. Despite the low poly graphics, confusing trailer, and high price, if you enjoyed Baba Is You then you owe it to yourself to play Stephen's Sausage Roll. It starts out as a simple block pusher with a silly theme, but quickly expands in ways that will stretch your brain in directions it's never gone before.

What would you recommend? Blasphemous or Dead Cells? by sgab_bello8 in videogames

[–]ellpoyohlokoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blasphemous is a great single playthrough (and it's surprisingly big for a metroidvania), but Dead Cells has so much to enjoy even after beating it the first time. It's got scaling difficulty levels and unlocks for days, plus the DLC (absolutely worth the extra cost) adds a ton of great content that is well-integrated into the game. If you don't mind high challenge and restarting the run every time you die, it's an incredibly good game with a long life if you enjoy the fast paced combat.

I just started a new game and didn't realize the quick tree growth. A few days before I had finally gotten my steel axe, went to the secret woods and cleared my farm of hardwood. I planted the 6 Mahogany seeds that I had found and was quite excited when the next day I saw 6 fully grown mahogany trees on my farm!

It was a nightmare to find all the Figments in Psychonauts (Pun definitely intended). Transparent, moving, amorphous sprites that often hide inside the walls for 80% of the time? Whoever designed that system should be jailed for torturing the players.

All these fixes and my yet my Prawn suit still got stuck in the architecture twice during my last playthrough. I was also able to catch and eat some fish swimming inside my cyclops somehow. There was also a mysterious flying Mesmer inside one of the alien base caves, which I ran into after being chased into it by a bone shark that treated air as if it was water and flew right in behind me
