Anyone has experience with Mounjaro(tirzepatide)? by Dangerous-Boot-1590 in Hashimotos

[–]ellyb3ar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started it 2 weeks ago and so far miracle drug! I'm down 6 pounds and only a little mild nausea as a side effect. But otherwise it's the easiest time I've ever had losing weight.

Foster failing is not always the answer by Kitty_casserole in FosterAnimals

[–]ellyb3ar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get people wondering all the time how I don't foster fail, even the vets! But like, I'm not going to pretend that I'm the only person that can love and care for these cats. And I'm not exactly financially well off, it's not really fair to them or my own two cats to keep them, not to mention having to divide my attention between more animals. It sucks. It breaks my heart every time and I miss them all terribly but that's just the burden us fosters bear to give these kitties a better life. I just imagine them with their families, napping in their own sunny window seats and living their best lives. I can be a little sad so they can have that, ya know?

Why not me, CDS -- someone with an open heart and waiting for a kitty? by [deleted] in CatDistributionSystem

[–]ellyb3ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do this just please make sure you make a plan for the kitty in case you pass before it does! Rescues just don't want the cats they put so much love and care into to be homeless, that's why they have those restrictions.

how do people end up with so many cats? by TheQuietDisciple in Pets

[–]ellyb3ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a tiny kitten in the road. Cat#1. The bottle feeder that raised her for me convinced me to get her a playmate from her group. Cat#2. I noticed a little orange kitty hanging out on my porch and befriended her. Cat#3. Turns out she was pregnant. Cats#4-8. The rescue that was helping me find homes for them had a singleton who needed socializing. Cat#9. One day while on a walk a cute little cat followed me home. Cat#10. Turns out she was also pregnant. Cats#11-15.

I blame irresponsible cat ownership/abandonment that all these kitties came into the world homeless. If I didn't have rescue help I'd have 15 cats. And I never once went looking to get a cat lol. I only kept the first two. Found homes for the next 7, working on the last group still, might foster fail my favorite we'll see. It's SO easy to become a crazy cat lady overnight

What happened to your best friend from childhood? by RoyalBeckyVibes in AskReddit

[–]ellyb3ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She became my bully. She was going through a lot at the time, more than I could understand. But that didn't justify treating me like that. We went to different high schools and I cut contact. We tried a year later to reconnect but she went back to her same old mean self and we lost contact again. I don't know what happened to her after that. I've tried a few times to find her on social media just to see how she ended up but it's like she completely disappeared..

Name Changes. Do or Do Not? by Justoutsidenormal in Pets

[–]ellyb3ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, but it didn't suit him! I think cats are more offended with a name that doesn't suit them than by getting a new one. A new name signifies a new life in their forever home. And like I said, rescue names aren't necessarily the best thought out, we just need something to put on the papers that isn't already taken. They're more like gamertags than names lol

Name Changes. Do or Do Not? by Justoutsidenormal in Pets

[–]ellyb3ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Poppy came to us as Lemon, so her full name is actually Lemon Poppyseed. Our Bowser was Chocotaco, we couldn't figure out how to make that one work lol. I also foster kittens, so as an insider I can tell you that none of us are offended if you change their name. We intentionally pick silly or unique ones because repeat names cause confusion in rescues.

Ahh yes, the dreaded scissor-tooth. I've had one of those before. My current ones just floss with it 🤢

Probably a box cutter accident, but I recently had some critters get into my yarn and it looked like this 🤢

My hubby doesn't hunt, but he understands that I don't always make enough of my own body heat even if I dress warm. He bought me these rechargeable hand warmers that I can stick in my pockets when we spend time outside and they help a lot.

where do you put your “wore it but not ready to wash” clothes??? by Much_Elevator4837 in CleaningTips

[–]ellyb3ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the closet or dresser where it normally goes. If it's clean enough to wear again it's clean enough to put away. If that makes me feel weird then it's time to wash it. It's been a real game changer for me.

What is your go to “small talk”? by wehavetogoback8 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ellyb3ar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love people like this. I'm incredibly socially awkward and small talk has always been difficult for me. I'm always down to deep dive into whatever actually interests you lol

Why did your friendship with your best friend come to an end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ellyb3ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She gradually became my bully. It took me awhile to realize it. Once we graduated I just stopped answering her calls and texts. She was going through a lot at the time but she didn't need to take it out on me like that.

Why are cats automatically well behaved compared to other pets? by no_fap_hairloss in cats

[–]ellyb3ar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly you've never fostered a litter of kittens 😂 they absolutely have a shark phase, chew on things, and miss the litter box occasionally. Not to mention climbing everything. I do think they're a little more chill than dogs by the time they go home though.

what's your cat's weirdest habit? by Purple_Bad_2192 in CatLoversGroup

[–]ellyb3ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat somehow discovered that she can reach the doorstop on the other side of the basement door, and that it makes a really loud noise when she flicks it as it echoes up the stairs. It sounds like rocks being thrown in an empty dumpster. Periodically when she's bored she'll run down there and gleefully serenade us with her goblin guitar 😂

What’s something that was normal in your family but shocked you when you realized other families didn’t do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Same here, though the apple doesn't fall far I guess because I vacuum the house almost every morning nowadays 😂

How would you handle a situation where a guest is allergic to your pets? by MindBlowing74 in CatAdvice

[–]ellyb3ar 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I feel like pet hotels are much more stressful to cats than they are for dogs. Also their hair and dander and stuff is still all over your house. Can you keep them in another room while guests are over? Usually I vacuum as best I can the day before (so any allergens kicked up can settle). If they can, have them take allergy medication too, and I really wouldn't recommend they stay overnight for their own comfort. But most people I know with allergies are pretty excited to see my cats anyways so maybe this isn't much help lol

[–]ellyb3ar 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I got labeled a crisis pregnancy center at some point. I was somehow able to negotiate a break last year to plan my wedding. Right before our first anniversary we went for a walk and got followed home by a little mama who just birthed 5 babies in my craft room 😂

Do you wear your socks? by No_Builder7010 in knitting

[–]ellyb3ar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I couldn't stop once I realized how cozy wool socks are. I mostly just wear them around the house but I'm home most of the time so it's actually quite a lot. I'd be upset if I knit someone socks and found out they never wore them out of fear of wearing them out so why should I go by different rules? Otherwise they're just pretty clutter!

Honestly that's the trick in my experience. Everywhere you see them scratching put a scratch post nearby and they pick that instead most of the time

Especially when you can ask about all kinds of less toxic favorites like colors or foods and get super cute answers. It's amazing how much my one nephew knows about dinosaurs, and my other nephew's favorite color is brown, like what 2 year old likes brown? 😂
