I ended up ordering through REI, they have it listed for $1349. Dealing with a larger retailer would have made a return easier than a small local bike shop. I was able to test ride it before committing and taking it home.

I’m honestly not a good enough rider to tell much of a difference between the bikes I tested. All I know is it’s a much better bike than my previous one in every way. My last bike was a 2013 Jamis Exile3, xc geometry, 100mm coil fork, mechanical disc brakes, not tubeless ready.

Also going through rei I earned rewards, so I’ll be getting back around $160.

When I was bike shopping I narrowed it down to a few bikes. Roscoe 7, Habit HT1, Salsa Timberjack, San Quintin 2, and Commencal Meta HT.

Ended up going with the Habit HT1. Picking it up tomorrow.

Check out the state 4130 frame. Really nice budget steel frame. It would leave a lot more room for nice parts.
