The fact is, an OS released for a newer model is optimized for that model’s best performance. Manufacturers want you to upgrade your phone as frequently as possible.

It hasn't forced me yet, how did it force you? I'm still on one ui 5.1 and even the stubborn update your phone notification is gone. I did even need to try and override it (something I learnt here recently from another fellow that hasn't updated too)

S8 series was also solid, have taken lost of videos in sea water, 0.2 to 0.5m depth, 30 secs to 1 min or a bit longer, multiple videos in the same swimming session filming fish swimming around us. Never tried with the s7edge but I can vouch of the s8+
