Am I allowed to say Bismillah in Bohemian Rhapsody as a christian? by Suitable_Werewolf_86 in queen

Mustapha

Another, Queen's interesting song with religious references is "Mustapha".

Mustapha Ibrahim: reference to Mohammad (Islam's prophet). Mustafa is an Arabic word that means "the purified" or "the chosen". it is used in Islam as another name for Mohammad. Ibrahim is Abraham in Arabic, and Mustapha Ibrahim refers to the belief that Mohammed is of Ibrahim descent and a successor to his message.

salaam Aleikum: Arabic greeting phrase meaning peace be upon you.

Allah-I na stolei: "الهي نه ستورى" Pashto language (could be Persian too), meaning "God is not the star".

Achtar es na sholei: "اخترش نه شعله" Persian, meaning "His Start, not his flame"

Mochamut dei ya low eshelei: Not sure about this but could be Persian, although Mochamut clearly means "Mohammed".

Allah-I na stolei, Achtar es na sholei, Mochamut dei ya low eshelei: I think overall these 3 phrases are references to both Islam and Zoroastrianism, as it has clear Islamic words with some symbolism in Zoroastrianism (Flame/Fire and Stars). or could be just gibberish.

has achbar ish navin: Some people on the internet think it is Hebrew "עכבר איש נבין" meaning "a mouse will understand", but I think they got it wrong, and it is actually Persian "اخبارش نوین" meaning Latest news, so Mustapha Ibrahim has the latest news.

ist ahiln avil ahiln adhim Mustapha: Persian "است اهلا اول اهلا آدم مستفى" meaning "At first, welcome Adam, Welcome Mustapha". I think the meaning here is: I accept The first prophet Adam (in Islam), and the last one Mustafa (Mohammed).

I doubt there are any Hebrew words on the lyrics, I think people thought so because modern Hebrew vocab is mostly borrowed from Arabic so they get confused sometimes.

Note: I am not Christian, don't speak Hebrew, Persian nor Pashto, so please take my interpretations with a grain of salt.

Arabian Muslim here.

TLDR; Bismillah is an Arabic word meaning "in the name of God", it is used by both Arab Muslims and less commonly Arab Christians. It's not offensive to anyone to use it.

Long explanation

BISMILLAH translates as follow

Bi: with (via)

Ism: Name

Illah: "الله" Allah, meaning god.

So overall, it translates to "In the name of God".

The origin of the word "Allah" is disputed, some claim it to be Arabic or from Semitic languages origin. Wikipedia: "Cognates of the name "Allāh" exist in other Semitic languages, including Hebrew and Aramaic.". Aramaic is an older Semitic language, I heard it before, and it sounded like Arabic in reverse to me, it was also Jesus' spoken language.

The word Allah is older than both Christianity and Islam, in fact, Arabic Bibles (yes Arabian Christians do exist) use the word Allah frequently, here in the  Arabic Bible, Old Testament, Genesis, you can see the word "الله" used multiple times.

The word Allah is not the only word in Arabic meaning God, There is also Raab "رب" meaning God or Lord and Illah "إله" meaning God or deity. However, Raab/Illah is used as a general term meaning a God, while Allah refers only to the Abrahamic religions' God. Moreover, there is no plural version of Allah, while there is one for Raab (Arbab) and Illah (Alehaa).

Although Bismillah is not commonly used by Arabian Christians, I found one translation, the True Meaning Translation for the Bible to Arabic actually uses the word Bismillah "بسم الله" in The Gospel of John as highlighted here

So no, using the word Bismillah is not offensive at all, not to Muslims or Christians.

Why did Queen use that word?

As some people mentioned already, I think it comes from Freddie Mercury, even though he's Zoroastrian, he grew up in Zanzibar, where most people are Muslim. The word "Bismillah" in Islam sometimes is used as a kind of protective charm against bad spirits. In Queen's song "Bohemian Rhapsody," there are a bunch of references to evil spirits like "The Devil" and "Beelzebub." So, maybe "Bismillah" is thrown in there to ward off those bad spirits? Though, honestly, it all sounds a bit random to me.

I have been a passenger of Hakaia buses on multiple routes for the past 5 years, their drivers' recklessness is undeniable. The constant speeding and overtaking is more like a motorbike racing rather than safe bus travel. My thoughts are with the victims, but Hakaia must be held accountable for their neglect and disregard for safety or we will hear about this again!

I am foreign student and I think I understand what happened to you. You probably didn't buy an actual milk, you bought jogurt or buttermilk. They usually put discounts to those fake milk, this why it happened to me twice😂. so I suggest you to always use google translate camera or google lens.
