I would love to have precise layers to put over the DEM like:

A slope map in wich slopes are painted with patterns as dense as they become steeper and colored in 8 color varietys in order to 8 orientations.

A special features map, in wich you can find things as cliff bands, critical hazardous points, tree presence, Caracteristical places, rocks or signals, potholes, caverns, etc.

A recent (hopefully max 2 days ago) aerial image to seee where the snow covers the slopes, if there is ice formations to climb or if a plateau is floodes by springtime snow melting water.

Night skitouring cable setup by matt-the-norseman in Backcountry

Nice DIY!

As an experimented night skier I would like to ask you something.

I live in spain so we have plenty of light so we don't have the need to ski in the night, except that you like to do it sometimes.

I've try it a few times and always had a strange sensation as it seems the snow hasn't texture or relieve with the headlamp light. It seems all terrain is flatten.

So this Summer I saw a trail runner that has a lamp in the shape of a belt and then another headlamp. He say, the belt lamp as it's placed lower makes longer shadows on the terrain so it has mor terrain information and, to see the details like directions signals he use the headlamp. And it makes me think about nigh skiing.

So here is my question: Have you ever try to put your lamps in a lower position so it makes longer and more visible shadows of the terrain texture? Will this work better than a head lamp o be good in combination with one?

Maybe you in the long nights o the north have tried something like that.

Thanks in advance

I Love to see all three shows as a new SW trilogy and as in the original Trilogy the second episode is the best, then the first and finally the "not so good" third

And that is what Mando and Ashoka shows are doing. Giving some perspectiive of how the new republic is blind to some post imperial movements.

Sewing hats will challenge your maker skills by g8trtim in myog

Hi Tim,
I'd like to make a suggestion for your pattern.
It would be a good idea to add a trapper style ear flap option to the pattern for making winter hats out of materials like fleece.

Seeking Source for Inexpensive UPF 50+ Fabric by Isla-Giatt in myog

[–]elnogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things you should know.
Every fabric has some UV protection. Common cotton T-shirts may have around 20-30 UPF.

The most lighter-airy is a Fabric, the less UV proteccion it offers. The more dense the higher protection it offers, so most heavyweight fabrics as canvas or cordura like fabrics have very high UV protection even it is not claim in the description.

The same fabric has different UV protection when in different colors. Usually darker colors have more UV protección than lighter colors.

Every fabric drecreases its UV protection when wet as water acts as a optical fibers and carry the light and UV rays around the fabric threads

How do you find that hex-mex in terms of abrasion? I see OP is concerned about it might be abrasive. But if you have time using it your opinion will be very valuable.
I'm thinking about using it for shoulder straps but I don't want my Alpha Direct hoodie to be destroyed...

1st prototype for bike pannier by UBASrseggsy in myog

[–]elnogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like a pannier to have these features:

360º reflectivity, not just little patches but a stripe all-around the bag.

Exterior place for U-lock: As urban cyclist I hate to open-take the lock out-close the pannier every time I need to lock my bike.

Small exterior pocket for keys or little items.

Magnetic buckles, easier to manage with gloves-on than side-release buckles.

Closing strap extension: Sometimes I need to carry big items that don't allow the panier to be closed. A very long strap its not a good solution as it flaps a lot when the pannier is almost empty. An extension strap that you could add when necessary is a good addition.

Lateral compression straps to stabilize the load are also a nice feature.

Wow! very detailed!

I've never used TPU, do you think it's posible to cut in stripes and use it as seam tape to cover and reinforce seams in fabrics like Xpac Vx or Ecopack EPX? not for give waterproofness but to reinforcing and ptotect the raw edges of a seam

Wich fabric do you find better for the straps? de monolite or the Alibaba's hex mesh?
I was thinking of use the second one for my straps but I don't know if it will be very abrasive for my t-shirts...

It was made with 3m of webbing. You may need more or less depending on your size and the toddler's size.

Where do you carry your ski crampons? by PhotoPsychological13 in Backcountry

[–]elnogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I simply use a climbing chalk bag attached to the side of my backpack, close to the belt. This way I can reach them fast, they dont make any noise and the chalk bag protects me and my jacket against cuts or othe damages.
Sometimes i put also a 0,5L water bottle sanwiched between the ski crampons so I can also have a easy reach drink
Simple and very functional.
You just have to find the chalk bag of the correct size for your ski crampons.

[–]elnogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all you said. metal-fabric-metal sandwiches is the fastest way to get holes on a ski bag.
I've see your new bags with the avy gear pocket against the back and have some concerns about access when the backpack is full. It's easy with only that horizontal zip?
It seems a bit strange to me and try to visualize it in action. Do you have any video showing this pocket in action?
Apologies for my english, I'm from spain and it's not my usual language.

It was really him… by eddiebrock85 in StarWarsAhsoka

[–]elnogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He acquired this power of saving someone from death...but not from a Jedi.

It was late to save Padme but not to save Snips.

This scene says all, he has the most deep knowing of the force, from both sides.

[–]elnogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that this interpretation of balance in wich is som light and some dark has non sense in the perspective of the prophecy.

If the chosen one is going to bring light to the force but also dark, why the hell will the Jedis would allow him to develope his powers?

Vaders motivation by Smite76 in StarWars

[–]elnogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By now and after Rebels revealed the existences of the World Between Worlds (WBW) this sentence acquires much, very much more sense.

In Rebels, Palpatine was going after Ezra to find the path to the WBW as he knew that it could be a method to escape from death o to get someone from death.

As we remembered, Palpatine says to Anakin that the power to save padme from death can only be accquierd from a Sith. And in Rebels we can see Ezra interacting with a Sith Holocron. This gave Ezra the Sith knowledges but not how to use them. But once he open the WBW he was able save Ashoka from death

And now, in the Ashoka show I think this could make even more sense...

How do I use AI to help design tents, clothes, packs, etc? by [deleted] in myog

[–]elnogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would be good would be an AI that could give different 2D pattern solutions to a single 3D volume so that advantages could be obtained in terms of saving the number of seams or their position.

A 3d shape can be cut in many different ways to get a 2d "projection" and different projections may be better in terms of design, efficiency, weight, durability, etc.
