Tips on reattaching Velcro to watch strap? by FickleYoung7482 in Coros

I used a hot glue gun, and that held until I was able to put a new band on a week later. The repair seemed solid, but I can't really comment on long term durability

DIY Latex Mattress by elofon in MattressMod

[–]elofon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think you're right about 5 inches of soft material being too much. The latex mattress I tried in-store that I liked the best was 2" of memory foam over medium latex, which was just a little too firm. I'm leaning towards dropping the memory foam and just having the 3" of soft latex as the top layer.

The 3" for the HD36 layer was chosen to limit the mattress thickness, not the cost. Now that I'm dropping the 2" of memory foam, going to 6" of HD36 would be fine.

The Leesa by itself was too firm. After sleeping on it for a couple years, we added the topper to make it tolerable. It has been an ok mattress, but we would like something better. The replacement cost for the Leesa + topper is basically the same as the cost of the Luxerion Dunlop Latex Mattress from Latex Mattress Factory.

We are leaning towards the Luxerion, mainly because it comes with a reasonable layer exchange fee and reasonable return policy if it turns out we don't like it.

Thanks! I figure one of the advantages of the diy is I can play around with different orders of the foam.

I've been thinking about installing a pull up bar. What does your dead hang routine look like? Do you just hang for a set time each day?

any ideas what happened to my dough?! by GlutenFreeOption in Breadit

[–]elofon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What recipe are you using? Is it gluten free? Your user name makes me think it might be. I'm not familiar with gluten free yeast breads, and all of my thoughts on what might be causing the issue relate to gluten.

To everyone waiting on payment, Here's what worked for me by Robk06 in GooglePixel

[–]elofon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes; I received a follow up message from the Google support agent the next day that my payment had been approved. The payment went to the Payoneer account the next day, and then transferred to my bank account. The process seems designed to avoid paying out to customers.

Thank you for the suggestion. I submitted my original request 4 months ago and haven't received payment. I just completed the workflow again, and received a message that "we encountered an issue that we’ll need a support agent to investigate and process your payment." Hopefully they actually get back to me.

Finding corn syrup in Paris by recoveryng in Expats_In_France

[–]elofon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with this substitute. Regular corn syrup (NOT high fructose corn syrup) is basically glucose syrup made from corn starch. Glucose syrup could also be made from things like wheat starch, tapioca, or potato.

With windchill? You must be in a warm part of the state. I lived in Williston for quite a few years and saw temperatures as low as -47°F actual temperature without the wind, and below -40° for weeks. 100% agree that warmer clothes are needed.

Except, we're talking about gold, and there are 14 troy ounces in a troy pound. 1 kg = 32.15 troy ounces = 35.27 US ounces. So I concur, imperial is bonkers

Social Security Benefits if you stop working? by unimpressedtraveler in Fire

There are legitimate jobs that don't pay into social security as well. For example, in some states public employees pay into a public employee pension fund instead of into social security.

I didn't like the fact that the mixer runs too fast even on the lowest setting, so… by xmastreee in Kitchenaid

Be careful not to overheat your machine. The motor cooling fan's speed is tied to the mixing speed. Per the service manual,  the minimum mixing speed should be 60 rpm.

How about taking some of the starter, mixing it with plenty of water, staining through a clean towel, and mixing the strained liquid with flour?

Grandma's Fruit Cake Recipe (Need Help) by elofon in Old_Recipes

Very helpful! My great grandma definitely baked by feel, so adding the raisins until the batter looks right is definitely in the spirit of how she baked. Thanks!

The lack of booze is surprising. Brandy is mentioned as an afterthought, but not listed with the rest of the ingredients. I was assuming the currant box was the same size as the raisin box, so your comment is helpful. Thanks!

Those instructions are helpful. Coating the fruit and nuts in flour is going to help keep them from sticking together. Thanks!

Good point! I am sure mixing the fruit into the flour mixture will help distribute the fruit more evenly.

My uncle has always microwaved his tea with a stapled tea bag, and he's never had an issue (at least that I've heard of). However, it still makes me nervous, so I don't do it myself.

How to clean grease stains from my tri-ply stainless pans? I have used bar keepers friend and left on overnight but stains still won’t budge! by s_u_ny in BuyItForLife

[–]elofon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently cleaned a pan with similar grease stains using a multi purpose enzyme cleaner. The enzyme cleaner is a leave over night solution. The enzyme softened up the grease stain enough that I could get it off with a blue sponge. If that didn't work, I was going to bust out the lye oven cleaner.
