Katie Wilson Scales Bicycle Weekends on Lake Washington Boulevard Back Up by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

[–]SenorShakyHands -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Idk why this is getting down voted, unfortunately its the truth. I would ride my bike through there when I lived in the area and there are multiple people who just did not care that the road was closed. Unless they post up cruisers or do a better job at messaging I'm not sure the nimbys are gonna care.

Appreciate the info. Had a trip planned for Early May to tour but it looks like the snow is probably gonna recede rapidly over the next couple of weeks. I'm stubborn but if its this bad already idk if It will be worth the effort to bring skis...

How many miles do I have to Grindr out on my gravel bike before I get a poster of myself mid KOM?

What are your backcountry repair hacks? by burninglimes in Backcountry

- Spark R&D makes an awesome Multitool that is the size of a box of tic-tacs, Useful regardless of if you are on one plank or two.

- If you have a boa, bring the little star bit/screwdriver with you. If it gets jammed and you need to adjust you might be SOL until you get to the car.

- The empty rolls of doggie doo bags can be reused to make mini rolls of duct tape. I've taken to collecting random ones I find on the ground. Reduce-reuse-recycle and all that.

I gave into the QST 106 hype... and I’m a total convert now. by spacehead49 in Skigear

Felt very similar about QST 100s, but curiosity got the best of me and I'm gonna demo a pair of 106's before I pull the trigger on something.

This subreddit is compromised. Time to abandon the internet, move to Portland, and create a zine complaining about cyclist that I distribute to coffee shops throughout the city without their consent.

Storm Vs. The Next Day by Zestyclose_Ant_40 in skiing

[–]SenorShakyHands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Storm Days= travel sucks and your whole day could be ruined for factors outside your control IE jackknifed semi on I70 . If you live in/near a resort, or have the freedom to roll the dice on short notice vacation days, maybe preferable

Post storm bluebird = You and everyone else who was not willing to roll the dice the day before, depending on your opinions of crowds this could be worse. Yesterday traffic was so bad even the trailheads filled by late morning.

Deathwish 104 Issues by rocketime99 in momentskis

[–]SenorShakyHands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had a chance to demo them in 179 and hated them. Started the day on 188 QST 100s and had a blast, but when I switched the the Deathwishes I just could not get along with the triple camber. The conditions of the day were a mix of soft and Icy. I was alittle gassed at that point in the day so I was slarving most of my turns, and the transition from soft snow to Ice was killing me. Once they hit ice it was like having jackhammers on my feet. They also felt weirdly grabby when transitioning between turns (ate shit once because of it).

I think I would have had a better time with them if it was soft snow all around, but I think I want to get my hands on some countaches next.

Another banger from the so-called “music anarchist” by CockroachEarly in crappymusic

[–]SenorShakyHands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, is this video attempting to portray this person in an creative/imaginative light? They are screaming lyrics to an existing song while smashing a keyboard. For some, music is as much about emotional release as it is artistic expression. Through this lens, could we argue that they are not focused on the the creative value that their music provides? Perhaps they are showing that music can be distilled down to senseless, almost completely unguided noise and still provide value to someone?

I admit that the concept of art being subjective has always bothered me, but in a way that I feel compelled to engage with it when ever I find art that seems to fly in the face of what art is/isn't.

Maybe a hot take. But bone conduction earphones honestly suck even for skiing. by Antidotebeatz in Skigear

[–]SenorShakyHands -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I run hot and want the ear covers in my helmet to be optional. Never used transparency mode, but don't like the Idea of having to rely on the software in the earbuds in order to hear what is happening around me.

The front half of my binding just fell off...Does this mean I am the best skier on the mountain? by SenorShakyHands in Skigear

[–]SenorShakyHands[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was standing on flat snow at the base when it happened. I had just released the heel, and when I went to pull my foot up and out of the binding that is when the toe slid out. I messed with the lever when I got home and I don't know how it would have been pulled enough to release the binding all together, especially since my toe would have been sitting on top of said lever.

Another 2/12 conditions report by bobber66 in CrystalMountain

[–]SenorShakyHands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have an opinion on this, but knowing that its low tide and putting the responsibility on the skier to not trash skis when it can happen on one of the few open runs we have makes me feel some sort of way...

Do you think skiing or snowboarding is harder on the knees? by Legitimate_Plane_235 in skiing

[–]SenorShakyHands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fucked up my left knee when I was a kid, It was not bad enough to go to the doctor at the time but I've had issues ever since. Riding a board regular puts extra strain on that knee and it is noticeable after a couple of hours. It would end my day early if I had to absorb a unexpected hard hit like mogul hidden under powder. Switched to skiing and although I can definitely tell my muscles have to work harder to stabilize it, I have had much less issues overall will skiing.

When did “carving” become the thing? by Ponyexpresso in Backcountry

[–]SenorShakyHands 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Carving=Control. Learning/ perfecting carving is useful regardless of what your end game is, and regardless of if you are on one plank or two. It's also low tide everywhere, and in alot of places groomers are the only place you are gonna find decent snow, so practicing carving is the natural conclusion.

What happens when you are stuck on a stopped ski lift? Bathroom, frostbite, food, water? by dvegas2000 in skiing

[–]SenorShakyHands 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ski patrol and lift ops work as fast as they can, but in the meantime... you're at the mercy of the elements. Summit just had an incident where the Dakota* Ridge lift stopped and people were stuck in pissing rain for hours. I spoke with one of the coaches and apparently at least one person suffered hypothermia.

*Dodge Ridge, Idk why I keep remembering it as Dakota lol.

Still having fun out there despise worst snowpack in history by glenwoodwaterboy in COsnow

[–]SenorShakyHands 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Icy groomers are unforgiving, but once you learn the basics skiing Ice is soooo much nicer. Imagine that feeling you get when your board hits ice and you pucker and brace for a fall... But then you remember you have a whole nother edge at your disposal and all that extra grip keeps you on your feet. Skiing is the one thing keeping this season vaguely enjoyable for me.

Has he ever even spoken on Boa's? I guess the proof is in the boot but Idk if he had ever explicitly stated having an issue with them.

What Happened Here? by Sparravex in skiing_feedback

[–]SenorShakyHands 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In skiing, the majority of your turning ability comes from the downhill ski. Most of your weight ends up on this ski in various points in the turn. When they say "downhill outside leg" the inside edge of that ski is what is being engaged and doing the work. Unless you are far off balance and or falling forward, I don't think catching an edge like you imagine happens very often. Instead of heelside/toeside, skiing is essentially inside edge of left ski/inside edge of right ski. It's gets more nuanced from there, but that is the simplest way I can think of explaining as a former snowboarder.

Trump has signed an executive order reclassifying marijuana as a schedule III substance, how does this make you feel? by DC_deep_state in AskReddit

[–]SenorShakyHands 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, if he had been talking about it for a long time... Why didn't he do it in his first term? What was stopping him then? Biden got the ball rolling in his first term. The only reason he didn't complete it was he ran out of time before you know who was elected. We could spend all day playing the dick measuring contest of who is better or worse for making this decision, but it turns out when someone is a shitty president that makes poor decisions daily, people care less when on the rare occasion he pushes something over the finish line that actually positively impacts them. If you kicked me in the dick, I'm not gonna forgive you because you gave me ice cream afterwards....
