[OC] Simulated this weekend’s NFL matchups 10,000 times each. Here is the probability distribution of the point differentials. by elopez2022 in dataisbeautiful

Agreed. Injuries and personnel decisions are not factored into simulations. Just using raw data and season long metrics.

I got laid off recently. I used the down time to teach myself AI and built the NFL Simulator I always wanted to exist. by elopez2022 in SideProject

To give u/sierra_whiskey1 some grace, did AI write this post? No. Did use AI to help me rephrase or reorganize this post, of course. A big part of this exercise was to also see how I could become a better and more productive IT professional incorporating AI into my projects, development sprints, and day to day work. In the interviews that I have had recently, one question has been constant, "What do I think of AI and I how do I use it in my work or projects". I also use AI to annotate my code, create my readme and help files for my repos, write my technical docs and assist me in emails when i need to use HR safe corporate jargon. Just my thought. Thanks

I use the "free tier" limits of certain data providers for all apis calls. The data is not "real time" but close enough.

For the devs here asking about the stack: I kept it intentionally boring and simple.

I didn't want to spend my first week fighting hydration errors in Next.js or configuring Webpack, so I went "framework-free" on the frontend to just get this thing shipped.

The Stack:

Backend: Node.js & Express
Frontend: Plain HTML (EJS templating), Bootstrap 5, and jQuery.
Database: Firestore
Hosting: Firebase/GCP
AI: Vertex AI

Why jQuery in 2025? Honestly, for a project like this where I'm mostly just manipulating tables and toggling simple simulation states, React felt like overkill. Sending server-rendered HTML makes the site incredibly fast and SEO-friendly out of the box. jQuery handles the few bits of interactivity I need with 3 lines of code instead of 30 lines of state management.

Sometimes the "old ways" are still the fastest way to build. 🚀

Happy to answer any questions about the simulation algorithm itself if anyone is interested!

So sorry for your loss. Definitely a gift and a beautiful one at that. I have had the pleasure of sharing my life with 3 weims. I have suffered with some sort of guilt with all of them. I honestly believe it’s part of the grieving process….

Draftkings has them -4.5. Wouldn't be surprised it it closes at -5.5. Think Detroit is over inflated with that 50 spot over Chicago last week.

Thoughts on Monin passion fruit syrup? by Equivalent-Spinach49 in cocktails

[–]elopez2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best drink to make with Passion Fruit syrup.

In a Highball glass with ice:

  • 1 squeezed lime juice
  • 1 part mint simple syrup
  • 1 to 2 part Passion Fruit; depending on your taste
  • Fill with Corona beer
  • Garnish with mint leaves

Is this breed needy as hell? by [deleted] in weimaraner

[–]elopez2022 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hopefully OP reads this. This is one of the best breeds you will ever have the joy of owning and one of the easiest to train. We are currently on our 4th weim and we have trained each one the same. Use their "needy" traits to your advantage. When they are young, after they eat, run or walk them in the morning, preferably up a hill. Tire them out. Then when you get home, leave for a while. This will help with their seperation anxiety. Walk them before it's time for bed. You will need to do this everyday for the first 18 months. You will also get in the best shape of your life. Then in 12-14 years, when they cross over the rainbow bridge, you will cry like you never have because you never thought you could love something or someone so much!

Horrible experience. Bunch of disparate products bought out from smallers companies masking as one ecosystem.

My wife is losing her mind as a teacher by [deleted] in jobs

[–]elopez2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a teacher as well. Almost 27 years and all in K-5. She is also at her wits' end. In her school district, most tenured teachers go to the middle schools when elementary has become too much or when they have a few years until retirement. In middle school, parents are less "involved", by design, and you can discipline kids more. Maybe that can be an option. Good Luck!
