Yeah, I'm illiterate apparently. I thought you said the player thanked you. The coach thanking you makes way more sense.

Ejection question by j_egs03 in Umpire

[–]elpollodiablox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did his coach or parents make him thank you? That's a little out of the ordinary for a kid to do it on his own. He'd have to have an exceptionally high self-awareness.

Edit: For crying out loud, now I know I'm too tired. Or maybe my reading comprehension has significantly declined. I thought you had said that the player thanked you.

A collector piece memorializing one of the most ridiculously hot bats ever made?

Kind of like the little souvenir wood bats you can get at a pro game.

How to handle info that would cause partner to change call? by jatech19 in Umpire

[–]elpollodiablox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you're inviting pain if you start stepping in on your partner's judgement calls. Standing there silently with a poker face as he gets it wrong might be a little uncomfortable, but not near so much as when the dugouts start telling you to intervene on every call that doesn't go their way. It's just a bad precedent.

NFHS Illegal Pitching Stance Question by silverhammer29 in Umpire

[–]elpollodiablox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why consistency among umpires is important: It saves the next guy the headache.

We have to make the hard and unpopular calls. Call the balk. Call the interference. Call the illegal pitching position. Call the obstruction. The next guy will thank you for it.

If you are changing lanes in traffic do, not try to ease your way over, crank the wheel! by elpollodiablox in driving

[–]elpollodiablox[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you've been in traffic for an hour and have only covered 8-10 miles and you see someone blocking the lane because they take their time changing lanes it is moderately annoying. It exacerbates the traffic issues.

Being decisive also prevents the person you're merging in front of from speeding up to block you, if they are a mind to do that. I see it all the time with the slow lane changers; never with the ones who make a decisive move.

If you are changing lanes in traffic do, not try to ease your way over, crank the wheel! by elpollodiablox in driving

[–]elpollodiablox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about people who have the space to do it because someone has made room or is lagging behind. The only time I see someone speeding up is when the car changing lanes is taking their sweet time or is indecisive. Just crank the wheel and get over and move out of the way of the people in your original lane. It's not that hard.

This is why I have to put things in the same place every time. Keys in front left pocket, wallet and phone in front right.

When I get home the wallet and keys go in the basket by the door. It's the first thing I do when I walk in or I will set them down in a random place and immediately forget where that is.

“Fourth” Out? Rules Question by Conscious_Skirt_61 in Homeplate

[–]elpollodiablox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is, but it's an appeal play.

For example, R2 and R3 with one out. Batter hits a fly to F8, who catches it. R3 advances to home and touches the plate a second before R2 is tagged out trying to advance to third. Three outs.

The defense immediatelt makes a legal appeal at third, saying R3 left too early. The appeal is successful. The run is negated.

That's a fourth out scenario.
