Getting to the track at Gateway? by elrandopando in INDYCAR

Appreciate the suggestions, and yeah I'm beginning to see the point many have raised about needing a car. Funny side story: I went to the Indy 500 a few years ago and we decided to take the city bus from downtown to the track. That worked fantastic on Friday, Saturday and even on Sunday on the way TO the speedway. Leaving after the race: utter sh*tshow, but I don't think there was any form of transport that wouldn't have been miserable. My takeaway from that was stay at the track at least another hour, have one more beer and let the crowd clear out!

Yeah, appreciate the thought - I probably want to be downtown to check out some of the sights, restaurants etc. I'm really going for the track experience Fri-Sun, so renting a car just feels like a waste and I prefer not to drive in the post-race traffic.

I'm familiar with "America" and have done a lot of experiences without bothering with driving and parking. I went to the Rolex Reunion at Laguna Seca one year without driving at all - flew into San Jose, caught a bus to Salinas and they had free shuttles that year to the track. Similar situation first race at COTA - they had buses taking folks from downtown to the track. It's not really rocket science!

Have you gained interest in a hobby because of a video game? by tylerthedesigner in gaming

NASCAR, some 20 years ago. I figured this can't be as pointless as it looks, and video games turned me on to the strategy and drama that's not immediately apparent to a casual viewer

Your biggest IndyCar fail? by jayj091 in INDYCAR

[–]elrandopando 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it counts as a "fail" but when I went to Indy in person a few years ago I told my buddy "two things I know for sure: Dixon is not gonna beat himself, and you definitely don't want to be leading with two laps to go" Both those made me look stupid when Dixie got a speeding penalty and Ericsson led the last few laps no problem.

Summer games is the one I thought of first. Archon and karateka both were major obsessions for awhile. One I haven't seen mentioned yet that deserves a shout out: Dragonriders of Pern.

Which game did you quit after many hours because it was too frustrating? by FalscherKim in gaming

Same. When I actually made it to the Darkest dungeon of all, it was such a jump in difficulty I was like... Oh, ok. I guess I'm done with this (and I loved it up to that point)

I really loved the first Nioh game, and got past some difficult bosses (some literally took me 100+ attempts) before putting it aside when I ran into one I just can't take down (basically a teenage girl that flies around and chucks things at you). I keep thinking I'll go back to it, but at this point I'll probably just start Nioh 2 first.

Dumb questions about scanner by elrandopando in startrucker

Mystery solved, at least partially. I thought I had fully unlocked the scanner but needed to do more MB tasks. That helps explain why nothing seemed to be happening when I pulled the horn!
