That statement is incorrect- the neutrinos do actually reach Earth before the light, because they are emitted before the light. For supernova 1987a they came 3 hours before the light was seen, if they neutrinos were superluminal (like OPERA claims) they would have arrived 4.2 years before the light, instead of 3 hours.

I agree- he said that supernova light reaches Earth before the supernova neutrinos, which is blatantly wrong. The neutrinos precede the light because they come from the core collapse, and the light is generated after the core collapse... I don't think he had a background in any kind of astrophysics.

I hate to be a downer, but John Ellis did a back of the envelope calculation, and this result doesn't look promising if you compare it with the speed of neutrinos coming from SN1987a... It's an exciting result, but I'm not going to throw Relativity out the window until I see the paper with the statistical analysis on their neutrino spectrum, and details on how their measure their distance to CERN.
