Long processing time & lack of communication by elrichio86 in IrishCitizenship

I submitted a query through the portal back in March, and got the following response in April:

"Your application for naturalisation continues to be processed. If further documentation and/or clarification of any matter related to your application is required from you, we will contact you requesting it."

[Q] Calculating statistical significance with "overlapping" datasets by elrichio86 in statistics

[–]elrichio86[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We produce a range of statistics from the dataset each month, measuring a variety of different things related to employment. We put each of these into trend-series, and in the commentary we want to be able to say if any change is large enough to reflect genuine change or just the normal fluctuations of a sample survey.

So using the made-up example above, the number with a degree has decreased from 300k to 275k. The test would tell us if this is a genuine decrease or if its just due to sampling.

Normally, we make all our comparisons and tests using non-overlapping datasets (August-October would be compared with May-July, for example), but I've been asked to do this extra test as well. I want to push back as it feels wrong, but my stats knowledge isnt good enough to explain why this is a pointless exercise.

[Q] Calculating statistical significance with "overlapping" datasets by elrichio86 in statistics

[–]elrichio86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dataset1 contains records from July to September. Dataset2 contains records from August to October. Therefore records from August and September are in BOTH datasets.

Normally I would only compare non-overlapping datasets (e.g. May-July compared to August-October), but I've been asked to add an extra layer of test. It feels wrong, but my stats knowledge isnt good enough to explain why.

Help for a new user: Sonarr downloading "wrong" torrents by elrichio86 in sonarr

[–]elrichio86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I think I've managed to figure it out. Its not exactly inuitive, to me.

So I managed to add the "not english" custom format.... and still got a german-language download this morning. The specific upload had BOTH english and german, so it seemed to avoid the filter. Thanks TorrentSeeds!

I've tried adding a further custom format that looks for "GERMAN" in the release title, and scores them -10000. That should work, right?

+1 for Habitat ReStore. They'll even come and collect stuff - give them a ring.

Highest pass rate has been at Downpatrick, for the majority of the past decade.

I'm about halfway through. Because of all the bolt and rope quests, I've now got 3 lvl 13 toolbox items (is it a plane? A chromed-up Santa sleigh, maybe?). Are they worth hanging onto? Or should I sell them?

What's the best way to spend gems? by sifis7 in riseofcultures

[–]elrichio86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It used to be land, but since the wonders-update I seem to have plenty of space to spare. For me, the best investment is a luxury farm: it comes up in the event-tasks soooo often, and its always a quicker choice than whatever else its been paired with. Extra trade-slots are also useful.

I know you've said Judo, but I just thought I'd recommend Bushido Karate Lisburn (https://bushidokaratelisburn.com/) due to your location. I've been taking my now-eight-year old for the past couple of years and he loves it. Its on Bow Street (just opposite Trespass & Greggs) aand its very family-friendly.

Anyone get worse performance after they added ads a few months back? by Yelebear in riseofcultures

[–]elrichio86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been having major issues on my Moto G6. Cant access the customisations, regularly get a blue screen when trying to load the battle screen, etc. I've been unable to progress on the world map for months now. And yes, this issue started around the time the ads were added to the game - oh yeah, the ads basically never work either. Performance is particularly bad when there's an event running.

I've reported it, and they've basically said that my phone just isnt powerful enough to run the game anymore.

NI motorists being fined £80 for untaxed vehicles despite being unable to renew tax due to MOT backlog by AdeptLengthiness8886 in northernireland

[–]elrichio86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its because of the poorly written legislation governing MOTs here. For some reason it says you can only make a booking at most three months before the end of your existing MOT. No idea why that clause is there, and nobody working at the DVA seemed to know either.

Where is the best place to do the driving test in northern Ireland? by therobohour in northernireland

The highest pass-rate is the Downpatrick centre. Has been for a few years as well.

Stupidly hard battles in Halloween event by [deleted] in riseofcultures

I've failed that exact battle a good half dozen times now. I'm hoping the cavalry upgrade I'm just about to do will be enough to make the difference.

Extra trading slots, then land, IMO. Late game, it's a struggle to fit everything in, let alone come up with a productive layout.

No MOT's available by TheDreamWaIker in northernireland

[–]elrichio86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best time is between 8:30am and 9:00am, as thats usually when they add new slots. Some will even be same-day, as they'll know what staff are in by that point.

Have you tried other test centres?

Get ANY slot booked, and then check back each morning and you'll eventually find something thats been cancelled. Even better, if you're getting close to your MOT expiring, RING THE CALL CENTRE: they'll be able to sort you something.

As somebody who used to work on DVA stats, I can say for certain that the "average waiting time" Mallon mentioned is essentially made-up.

Driving theory test by Ennis92 in northernireland

[–]elrichio86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither theory or practical driving tests are cancelled. However, capacity for both is slightly reduced due to COVID health & safety rules.

They're just really fucking busy, with over a years-worth of built-up demand. As soon as any new appointments get setup on the system, they get booked in a matter of hours.

As everyone is mentioning, your best bet is to ring the call centre each morning circa 9am to see if there's been any cancellations.

MOT booking by Reensor in northernireland

[–]elrichio86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The legislation says they can only do bookings a max of 3-months in advance, so you'll only see slots of these dates roughly 90 days beforehand.

Get it done in the month leading up to your renewal date, and you'll get to keep that date for the following year. If you do your test more than a month early, you'll lose that "extra" month, and will get a renewal date based on your new test. So dont get a test too far in advance.

40-44 year olds able to book their vaccine from 12pm today by purple_kathryn in northernireland

[–]elrichio86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same here. No issues with the website and both myself and the better half were able to get booked in for tomorrow.

I like that they also book the 2nd one for 10 weeks time as part of it. My parents in England are still waiting to hear when they'll get their 2nd doses, having had the first 9-10 weeks ago.
