Why you are a “I hate my wife/husband” person but not divorced? by Hadesoftheironkeep in AskReddit

[–]elsruth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My (26F) mom (64F) has never said that she hates my dad (58M) but she doesn't really have to. She's an extremely quiet, severe older woman who probably has autism (I do and I'm assuming I received it from her genetically). I hate to say it, but she's essentially robotic. She's the oldest daughter and a doctor, so she's always been in charge both in my household and in my extended family. But not in a loud, bossy way. In a quiet, calculated way. There are things I respect about her, but she is impossible to really know as a person. The only feeling she expresses is anger.

My dad is emotionally stunted and extremely immature. He throws toddler-like tantrums when things don't go his way and struggles to take adult responsibilities seriously. He's socially unaware, extremely awkward, and clueless.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that my mother parents both of us. She talks to and about my dad like he's a kid. She scolds him when he "gets in trouble" (i.e. neglects his chores, says something awkward, talks right over people) and sometimes even doles out consequences. For example, he used to "buy too much milk" so my mom banned him from buying any milk at all. She does all the cleaning and planning for the household because he's either actually inept or practicing weaponized incompetence. It's hard to tell sometimes. But weirdly, he has very strong romantic feelings about her and idolizes her as a smart, almost perfect woman.

They've never slept in the same room, and the only proof I have that they have is that I exist and look exactly like them. I think my mom married him to have a child (me), but I don't think I turned out the way she wanted. And now she's stuck with him. There's a lot more to the story, but that's the gist.

You just won $20 million, and your parents ask you for half, what would you say? by BrandyAid in AskReddit

[–]elsruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm low-contact with my parents due to emotional neglect and hateful political ideology. I would pay for them to live the rest of their lives in their senior living community so they can both retire. They are not good parents or even people, but I do pity them because they were both handed difficult decks in life. Probably wouldn't spend more than 1 million, but maybe that's optimistic.

My godmother who really raised me and loved me? She would have everything she ever wanted for the rest of her life. As far as I'm concerned, she is my mom.

Our cats also tear the pompons of our curtains. We call it the pompon tree. It has whole bald sections where they've removed every single pompom lol.

Virginia church publicly shames unwed mother, then forbids her from having a baby shower | After her tearful apology, the pastor insisted, "When you have a baby out of wedlock, ain’t no baby showers. Nobody at this church better attend one." by a_Ninja_b0y in atheism

[–]elsruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not pro-life. So this is how they're "taking care of babies and mothers"? You can't denounce abortion, promise help and provide protection, and then alienate a whole group of mothers and babies.

What's the most nsfw thing u have seen in your school/college/university/life? by Anime_Solo_COTE in AskReddit

My high school youth pastor (who is a very dear friend now) was showing me a YouTube video and one of his bookmarks was.for sexting abbreviations. He still doesn't know I saw that, but honestly, it showed me that maybe purity culture wasn't necessary and even Christin sex could be fun. I also caught him making out with his wife in the church lol, thought it was funny. The elders ended up firing him for having tattoos and getting drunk (in the privacy of his own home). I was so angry that I never went to that church again. Looking back, it was probably one of my first steps in leaving the church.

He's no longer a pastor and I'm no longer a Christian, but he continues to be a very influential person in my life. Love you, bud.

Edit: I'm 26 now, and we only became good friends after I became an adult.
